Not all banks have this arrangement but if yours does, you might as well benefit from each visit to the ATM. How so? Some people tend to withdraw cash from the ATM every so often. What happens is that they take out several pounds now and then more later and more tomorrow and so on. As a result, they do not really keep track of how much they spend. A good thing to do would be to make arrangements such that every time you withdraw from the ATM, a small amount will be transferred to your savings account. It does not have to be big – just enough so that you will be more aware of your withdrawals and lessen them AND even if you do withdraw, you’ll get some money into your savings.

Learn to enjoy these things. Having fun does not mean that you have to spend tons of money. Just this past weekend, we opted to visit a university fair instead of going to the shopping center and watching a movie. Moisturizers creams, lotions, oils work by attracting and trapping moisture and oil in the skin, leaving it soft and supple. A good moisturizer will also serve as a barrier between your skin and the elements, such as harsh wind and pollution.
Choosing the right moisturizer is key to keeping skin smooth while not clogging pores. Moisturizers come in a variety of types, including ones that are oil-based, water-based, oil-free, and vitamin-enriched. To choose the best moisturizer for you, you’ll need to consider your skin type and seasonal change.
For Oily Skin. Women with oily skin can typically forgo a moisturizer. Yes, despite what your mother may have taught you, moisturizers will not prevent wrinkles and you will normally not need moisturizer unless your skin gets dry in the winter. In that case, opt for an oil-free formula that hydrates the skin. Consider products containing glycerin or other humectants that draw moisture to skin without clogging pores or imparting a greasy feel to the skin (Fashion Fair Oil Free Moisturizer).
For Combination Skin. Apply a light lotion once or twice a day to the dry areas of the skin only. You will probably not need to apply the moisturizer to the fore-head and nose, which are typically oily. For Dry Skin. Moisturize two or three times a day, depending on your needs and your skin on a given day. During the fall and winter, use a rich cream or lotion designed for dry skin (Lancome Absolute Replenishing Creme SPF 15, Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Lubriderm Daily UV Lotion SPF 15, MD Forte Replenish Hydrating Cream Hydra Sorbet Aquatique, Moisturel Therapeutic Cream). Switch to a lighter lotion in the spring and summer. Avoid products containing vitamin A or retinol, which can further dry the skin. Also, steer clear of greasy products (Vaseline) that can clog pores, especially if your skin is acne prone.
For Sensitive Skin. Follow the guide for oily, dry, or combination skin, but choose your moisturizer carefully. A water based formula may be best. Avoid ingredients that can irritate your skin, such as alcohol, lanolin, retinol, vitamin A, PABA sunscreen, or fragrance. Products to try include Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, Keri Sensitive Skin, Lubriderm Seriously Sensitive Lotion, and Neutrogena Moisture for Sensitive Skin.
For Hyperpigmenting Skin. In general, moisturizing hyperpigmentation prone skin whether it’s dry, combination, or sensitive is important because excessive dryness of this type of skin can lead to itching, scratching, and discolorations. However, when selecting moisturizers it’s best to avoid products with added ingredients such as vitamins, exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs) , and benzoyl peroxide unless you patch test your skin with these products. Those extra ingredients have the potential for inflaming the skin and then producing further hyperpigmentation. In other words, less is more. However, a moisturizer containing sunscreen, such as Olay Complete UV Protective Moisture Lotion or Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, may be beneficial in preventing suninduced pigmentation. When selecting moisturizers for this type of skin, follow the guidelines for sensitive skin.
Extras
Many moisturizers on the market contain a host of additional ingredients you may or may not need. These include the following.
Vitamins. Vitamin enriched products typically contain either vitamin CorE. These ingredients are considered antioxidants and may be beneficial for reducing sun damage and improving the appearance or the skin. Although preliminary studies may indicate improvement in the appearance of the skin with these products, many of the claimed benefits have not yet been proved definitively.
Vitamin A and retinol are often included in products for their anti aging and anti wrinkling properties. These products are beneficial in many cases, but excessive dryness and irritation of the skin can occur. Consult your dermatologist before selecting these products.
Additional supplements often included in skin-care products include coenzyme Ql0, Kinerase, niacin, copper peptides, and alpha lipoic acid. These ingredients are touted for their possible anti aging properties and may improve the skin’s appearance in some women.
Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). These acids exfoliate the top layer of skin. AHAs can reduce sun damage and acne and leave the skin with a wonderful glow, but overuse could irritate skin. I particularly like the MD Forte line of AHA products.
Sunscreen. Choosing a moisturizer containing sunscreen cuts out one step in your daily routine. The sunscreen should have an SPF of at least 15 in order to be effective.

It is also the basis of self-efficacy and the locus of control. The most influential factor in determining response to stress may be people’s own perceptions of themselves.
Physiological Responses to Stress
Stress abounds in life and can be experienced as the result of happy and unhappy events. Regardless of the stressor, each time a stressful event occurs, a series of neurological and hormonal messages are sent throughout the body.
The nervous system serves as a reciprocal network that sends messages between the awareness centers of the brain and the organs and muscles of the body. Part of this system is referred to as the limbic system. The limbic system contains centers for emotions, memory, learning relay, and hormone production and includes the pituitary gland, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
When a stressor is encountered, the body sends a message to the brain via the nervous system. The brain then synthesizes the message and determines whether it is valid or not. If a message is not verified by the brain as being threatening, the limbic system overrides the initial response and the body continues to function normally. If the initial response is translated as accurate (a stressor), the body responds with some emotion (fear, joy, terror) and the hypothalamus begins to act.
The hypothalamus sends a hormonal message to the pituitary gland, which then releases a hormone (ACTH) that helps signal other glands in the endocrine system to secrete additional hormones, providing fuel to respond with the fight-or-flight reaction.
Systolic blood pressure may rise 15 to 20 mmHg while fluid is retained. The adrenal cortex increases blood pressure to facilitate transportation of food and oxygen to active parts of the body. Blood volume is increased.
The hypothalamus also sends a message to release the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine, which initiate a variety of physiological changes. These changes include increased heart rate, increased metabolic rate, increased oxygen consumption, and the release of hormones called endorphins, which decrease sensations of pain.
The autonomic nervous system is responsible for a second major set of physiological responses. In reaction to a threat, the autonomic nervous system increases heart rate, strength of the skeletal muscles, mental activity, and basal metabolic rate; dilates the coronary arteries, pupils, bronchial tubes, and arterioles; and constricts the abdominal arteries. This system also returns the body to a normal, relaxed state.

Most doctors are not disinterested in you, but they are busy-so busy that many patients complain that their doctor cannot or will not listen to them. This is a problem because according to the American Society of Internal Medicine, 80% of correct diagnoses depend on what you tell your doctor. In a study of 74 visits to seven doctors, researchers found that only 16 patients were allowed to explain the problem fully. In 70% of the visits, doctors interrupted their patients before they completed their first statement. 20 Usually the interruption occurred within 18 seconds. It was not surprising that a recent survey on public attitudes toward physicians indicated 42% of those surveyed were not satisfied with their doctors. What was the major source of dissatisfaction? According to a recent survey the patients complained that doctors don’t explain things clearly, speak too technically, aren’t good listeners, are hard to reach, and are too rushed. Doctors also complain that patients aren’t good at describing problems and don’t listen well. Fortunately, medical schools are beginning to emphasize communication skills. Of the 126 US medical schools, 86% now have mandatory classes dealing with the doctor-patient relationship. More physicians seem to realize that good medicine means establishing good rapport with patients. A leading health newsletter recently acknowledged the importance of the doctor-patient relationship.
A partnership is emerging in which the patient participates more actively and the physician acts more like a consultant. The necessary ingredients in a successful physician-patient partnership are a prepared, assertive (not aggressive) patient and a sympathetic, caring physician.
Patients can do much to facilitate the development of a physician-patient partnership. Understanding the meaning of commonly used medical words, abbreviations, suffixes, and prefixes can enhance this communication. The following are some tips to ensure good communication:
When you see your physician about a problem, you should state the most important problem first. Doctors tend to believe that the first thing a patient says is most important.
You should be specific. If you have a headache, where does it hurt? How long does it last? How often does it occur?
You should know your family history. Because many illnesses run in families, you may be at higher risk for certain diseases. Before your first visit, you should contact your parents and close relatives to learn of their health problems, especially heart disease, cancer, stroke, arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, and tuberculosis.
You need to list medications and treatments you are receiving, including over-the-counter drugs. You will also need to identify any allergies and drug reactions.
You should ask questions. You can bring a written list of questions but try to make them brief and specific. You should ask about anything that is unclear and repeat the answers in your own words.
Before leaving the doctor’s office, you need to make certain you know the diagnosis or how to follow the recommended treatment. If drugs are prescribed, you should inquire about the possible contraindications (reason for not using a drug), side effects, and the possible substitution of generics.
When appropriate, ask your physician to write down instructions or recommend reading material for more information on a particular subject. Finally, inquire about the next steps in the treatment, if and when a return visit is required, and danger signs to look for and report back to your physician.
Second Opinions
Conditions involving elective surgery, chronic pain, and recurring illnesses often benefit from a second opinion. In many situations, a second opinion is appropriate and peace of mind is a sufficient reason for seeking it. A recent editorial in the Harvard Medical School Health Letter provides some helpful advice to the question, “When is a second opinion needed?” “As a general rule, patients should seek a second opinion whenever they are uncomfortable with the explanations offered by a physician, are not happy with the progress of recovery, question the proposed course of action, or simply feel the need for verification. In some cases, such as elective surgery, your health insurer may require a second or third opinion before authorizing payment for certain treatments.
If you decide to ask for a second opinion, common courtesy dictates that you discuss it with your physician. Your physician may suggest bringing in a consultant who will assess your situation and discuss it with you and your physician. You can also ask your physician for the name of someone to see separately.
A physician may feel that a second opinion is a waste of time or money. Regardless, your wish for more information should be respected. Reputable physicians do not feel threatened by another opinion; to the contrary, they may welcome another perspective on a difficult case. If your physician expresses displeasure for or resists your wish to have a second opinion, you may want to consider looking for another doctor.

What is the most time consuming work in building a fiber network
Two works are usually the largest line items in an fiber optic network installation budget: pulling the fiber optic cables and terminating or splicing the cables.
When pulling the fiber cables, you must observe the minimum bending radius of the cable, prepare the cable ends with a pulling eye kit, and filling the conduit with lubricant to minimize the damage risk to the cables.
That is not all, terminating the fiber optic cables can be a daunting task if you are installing a large fiber network. The time required to terminate different fiber cables can vary widely. Hence, the choice of fiber cables is a critical decision in reducing your cost.
Loose tube gel-filled versus tight buffered fiber optic cable
The choice of the cable type is one of the biggest cost drivers in cable termination. There are two basic cable types used in system installations:
1. Loose tube gel-filled cable
2. Tight buffered fiber optic breakout cables
Loose tube fiber cables
Traditionally, loose tube fiber optic cable has been used for outdoor long-haul links. Due to the fragile bare fibers and gel filling, which must be cleaned prior to termination, loose tube gel-filled cable is the most difficult to splice and terminate and also has the highest termination material costs.
Loose tube fiber cable type must normally be terminated or spliced close to the cable entryway of a building to switch to indoor-style cable, as it is generally incompatible with indoor fire (flammability) codes.
Tight buffered fiber optic breakout cables
Tight buffered cables require less care to avoid damaging fibers when stripping back the cable. Each fiber is protected with its own 900 µm diameter buffer structure, which is nearly four times the diameter and six times the thickness of the 250 µm coating.
This construction feature contributes to the excellent moisture and temperature performance of the tight-buffered indoor/outdoor cables and also permits their direct termination with connectors.
Tight buffered breakout fiber optic cable, has individual subcables within a primary outer cable sheath. This cable is the cable of choice for direct connectorization, as each fiber has its own aramid strength member for connector tie-off.
The connectorized subcables may be directly connected to equipment without fear of fiber damage or connector/fiber interface damage in most situations. Fiber optic breakout cable is by far the least expensive and easiest cable type to terminate and requires the least experience on the part of the installer.
Price comparison between two type of fiber cables
Cable prices are typically lower for breakout cables than for loose tube cables when fiber counts are fairly low. Loose tube gel-filled cables are lower in price for higher fiber counts. However, higher splicing and termination costs of loose-tube gel-filled cables over moderate-to-short lengths can far exceed the additional cost of tight-buffered cables.
Advantages of fiber optic breakout cables
A typical case in which termination costs dominate is an interbuilding (outdoor) cable entering a building where the required termination point of the cable is some distance from the building entryway, and it is necessary to switch from outdoor to indoor cable.
Outdoor loose tube gel-filled cable is typically required to be transitioned to indoor cable within 50 feet of the cable entry point to comply with fire codes. However, a tight-buffered indoor/outdoor cable can be used throughout the link, requiring no transitions at the building entryway.

Julie Bender, a dietician from the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, and Phil Tyne from Baylor Tom Landry Health and Wellness Center talked about some of the popular myths.
Some people say that belly fat can be removed with crunches. That`s not true because you can`t pick the area where you want to burn fat. To burn fats you may follow a workout program that includes elements from strength training or cardiovascular training and so, you may decrease overall body fat content, says Tyne.
The fact that it`s essential to stretch before exercising is false. Studies showed that stretching may increase the susceptibility of the muscle to injury because the muscle fibers become destabilized and less prepared for exercise. It`s good to warm-up before running, but try to stretch after the workout if you`re lifting weights, says Tyne.
Even if you`re having a morning workout, you may have a small meal with one to three hours before exercising. You may choose whole wheat toast, yogurt, or fruits because they provide energy for your muscles and helps you work efficiently, according to Bender.
Women become bulky because of lifting weights. That`s false because most women don`t produce enough testosterone to become bulky and if you`re getting bigger, you should use less weight, says Tyne.
The myth that fats are bad isn`t completely true. Small amounts of “good†fats may help you feel full and therefore eat less. The “good†fats are those from avocado, fish, or nuts. Some may be helpful for disease prevention, according to Bender.
Calorie restriction is a good way to lose weight. That`s false. Both calorie restriction and practice help you lose weight and maintain metabolism. Drastic measures like radically reducing the daily calorie intake may slow metabolism and provide only temporary results, says Bender.
You may eat healthy foods as much as you want. That`s false. You should limit the calorie intake and portion size no matter if you`re having a healthy food or not, says Bender.
Another myth says that fats are turned into muscles by exercise. Since muscle tissues and fats are made up of different types of cells, “fat will never turn into muscle†says Tyne.

Huntington’s disease is a rare hereditary neurological disorder which causes the abnormal death of brain cells. Huntington’s is also known as HD and used to be known as Huntington’s chorea. It affects approximately 1 in 10,000 people of Western European descent and 1 in 1,000,000 of African and Asian descent. HD is a progressive disorder, which means that the symptoms will worsen with time.
HD is passed from one generation to the next. If a parent has the mutated gene which causes Huntington’s disease, their children will each have a 50-50 chance of inheriting the gene. HD is usually hereditary, meaning it is inherited, but, in rare occasions, an individual may develop the disease with no family history. This is thought to be caused by a genetic mutation during the development of sperm.
Symptoms of HD usually develop later in a person’s life, but it is not unheard of for them to occur earlier in life. If symptoms develop before the age of 20, it is known as juvenile Huntington’s disease, or juvenile HD.
Symptoms include uncontrollable movements, known as chorea, as well as balance problems and uncontrollable facial movements. Impaired speech and problems swallowing can also occur. Depression and personality changes are other symptoms of HD, as well as dementia in late stages.
Juvenile HD’s symptoms are commonly compared to Parkinson’s disease. Muscle stiffness and rigidity can occur in adult onset HD, but are more common in juvenile HD patients. What is a loopback test?
A loopback test is a hardware or software method which feeds a received signal or data back to the sender. It is used as an aid in debugging physical connection problems.
Fiber optic transceiver loopback test
Fiber optic transceiver is the fundamental part in any fiber optic communication network equipment. Its function is exactly the same as your computer’s Ethernet Card. (although almost all modern computers integrate it on the motherboard, not as a separate PCI card anymore)
Fiber optic transceiver has two ports, a transmitter port and a receiver port. The transmitter port sends out laser signal to a linked transceiver and the receiver port receives laser signal from the other transceiver.
On fiber optic transceiver manufacturing floors and in R&D labs, we usually use a fiber optic loopback module to verify the transceiver is working perfectly as designed instead of using another transceiver as its partner.
Basically what the loopback module does is directly routing the laser signal from the transmitter port back to the receiver port. Then we can compare the transmitted pattern with the received pattern to make sure they are identical and have no error.

The most popular types of fiber optic loopback modules are SC, LC and MTRJ connector types. But each connector type is divided again by fiber type, connector polish type and attenuation.
Fiber Types
Each connector type is available for three fiber types. They are 50/125um multimode, 62.5/125um multimode and 9/125um single mode.
Connector Polish Types
Only PC polish is available for multimode type fibers. But for single mode fiber, two connector polish types are available: UPC polish and APC polish.
Working Wavelength
In addition to fiber type, working wavelength is the other important factor for choosing the correct fiber optic loopback module for your specific application. Available wavelengths are 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm. 850nm and 1310nm are for multimode applications and 1550nm is for single mode applications.
Attenuation
You can specify how the signal power level should be reduced in the loopback path. This is because the receiver port cannot handle very high power. And in real life fiber optic network, there are always attenuations introduced by fibers, equipment and physical environment. So the transmitter power is attenuated to a safe level through the network before reaching the other receiver.
However since you are routing the transmitter directly back to the receiver, attenuation usually must be added to protect the receiver.

What are fiber optic patch cables?

Does thickness matter when is comes to the quality of Oriental and Area Rugs?
Well, the short answer is NO. The thickness of most Oriental rugs has little to do with the quality, and more to do with the rug type or even style of the area rug.

Fever means a reading over 99° F. It is not usually necessary for an adult to seek medical care for a fever. Home treatment in the form of aspirin, acetaminophen, and sponge baths usually lowers fever. You should consult your physician if fever remains above 102 0 F despite your actions or, in the case of a low-grade fever (99 0 to 100 0 F), if there is no improvement in 72 hours. You should consult a physician if fever lasts more than 5 days, regardless of improvement. Symptoms, such as sore throat, ear pain, diarrhea, urinary problems, and skin rash, may be the cause of the fever and should be treated as such. Materials for encouraging reorientation and relearning are easy to find and need not be expensive. Of basic importance is the structuring of the patient’s primary living space (e.g., the bedroom or the sitting room). Furniture and accessories should be kept neat and tidy, and in the same basic order. Ideally, the room should have a window, whereby the patient can tell the time of day and the weather. A large clock (preferably with a lighted dial) and a calendar should be visible. The patient should be encouraged to wear and use a watch that contains a date feature. Stimulating materials should be readily available for the patient, such as current newspapers, magazines, a radio, and a television. A daily schedule of the patient’s hourly activities should be posted. Familiar accessories should surround the patient (e.g., family photos, mementos, favorite pieces of furniture, knickknacks, and the like), and around major holidays the room may be decorated. To help keep the patient oriented to place, signs, directional arrows, night lights, or color-coding of doors may be helpful.
In addition to the ongoing orienting that should occur in every interÂaction with the patient, the family member may wish to have more structured periods of reality training. These times should be kept relaxed and informal so that they prove to be pleasant experiences for both you and the patient. These sessions should occur in the same setting, be kept short (about 10-15 minutes), and occur several times a week.
A standard prop employed in reality orientation classes is the reality orientation board. The type of board used can be cork bulletin board, pegÂboard, a felt board, a blackboard, or any surface that allows for an easy changing of information on a daily basis. A typical format for the reality board is the family member and the patient fill in the current responses to these sentence stems together. It is imperative that the reality board be kept current and correct. Other reality materials can include - a toy clock with moveable hands, photo albums and scrapbooks, flash cards with words and pictures; large-print books, magnetic alphabet boards, scrabble sets with large letters, county, state, and world maps, well-known landmarks or a United States map, a globe; large-piece jigsaw puzzle of animals, food, and common object, plastic fruit and food, and large-print, illustrated dictionaries.
The family member must remember that every Alzheimer patient has different strengths and weaknesses that change over time, and even vary somewhat from day to day. As such, it is up to the family member to decide which orienting and training techniques will be more suitable. For higher functioning patients in the early stages of the disease, discussion of current events and newspaper headlines, working on a simple crossword puzzle, or fill-in-the-blank statements may be appropriate. A moderately affected Alzheimer patient may be able to discuss such topics as recipes, television shows, short stories, or sports, and still be able to participate in simple card games or checkers. With the very demented and confused patient, the family member may do best to focus on constant repetition of personal information, such as name, address, telephone number, and the name of the important person in the patient’s life (e.g., spouse, family member, or guardian). Such personal information should be typed on a permanent card that the patient carries at all times. The very confused and demented patient may also derive some benefit from the review of colors, names of objects, and the use of eating utensils or grooming objects.
In some cases the patient will be able to progress to somewhat higher levels of materials. Just remember not to set your expectations too high, and avoid abstract discussion or materials that can confuse and frustrate the patient. On the other hand, the patient should be stimulated and not bored. The key to reality orientation is that repetition and reminders should be offered in a positive, noncritical, and nonthreatening way. One of the primary goals of this technique is to rebuild the patient’s self-confidence and restore personal dignity.
