Valuable Brand Survey of MBT – The Anti-Footwear Outfit
November 5th, 2009 byMBT Footwear sells themselves as the “anti-shoe” manufacturer. With their rounded soles and innovative design philosophy, they’ve quickly grown into a major brand with a massive and fervent fan base.
But, do these shoes really live up the hype? Are they as comfortable as everyone says? More importantly, are they worth the high price? For the answers to these questions and more, keep reading for a high level review of MBT shoes.
Price Point
MBT Footwear is expensive. For a standard shoe, expect to pay well above $200. For some, this kind of pricing for a standard sneaker or basic, casual shoe is simply too high a price to pay. For fans of the brand, though, it’s par for the course.
The Comfort and Fit of MBT Shoes
The main idea behind MBT shoes is that they’re designed for the entire body. Essentially, these shoes have an almost rounded sole, which supposedly improves both your posture and your gait. According to MBT, the design reduces impact on your knees, relieves back pain, and can even help firm up gluteal and leg muscles when you walk.
Unfortunately, this shoe is definitely not for everyone. Many first-time wearers complain that it is awkward and makes walking hard to keep their balance. Each step is an exercise in control as you have to almost learn to walk again. For some, it’s an instant fit, but for others – a nightmare.
Personally, MBT shoes aren’t for me. Overall, I found the shoes to be uncomfortable and actually somewhat unsettling. I tried the shoes for 4 days and was still unable to get into a rhythm or comfortable walk. In short, this is a shoe that you really have to try before you commit to it.
MBT Brand Quality
For $250 per pair, MBT shoes should be some of the best made sneakers in the world. Fortunately, they are. The company has insisted on reinforced stitching, high-end materials and good design. These shoes can withstand constant daily use and are very durable. They’re also washable.
MBT Style and Design
You’ll definitely get noticed wearing an MBT shoe – the rounded sole attracts attention and certainly looks different. Whether or not the unique style appeals to you is usually a question of personal preference.
Most of their styles are sneaker-based or casual shoes designed to be worn under pants. MBT’s aren’t really a shoe for a night out on the town.
The Final Word on MBT
Personally, MBT Footwear isn’t for me – the fit was wrong and the imposed rolling gait was uncomfortable and awkward. But, for a brand that’s quickly attracted thousands of die-hard fans, it’s hard to knock it. Basically, try before you buy and see whether you love it or hate it.
