Whilst on your travels in Spain and pausing to take a breath from
site-seeing, you have surely experimented with “tapas” at a
welcoming bar.
If this is the case, it is more than likely that you have come
across the small, tasty filleted fish, preserved in olive oil,
sliced garlic and chopped parsley, and highly popular throughout
Spain. This delectable dish is usually known as “boquerones” but,
depending on the area, can also be called “anchoas”.
Boquerones are small, fresh anchovies. Accompanied by crisp,
fresh Spanish bread, a glass of ruby-red wine or refreshing
Asturian cider, they are a delight to eat. Moreover – as with
many traditional Spanish dishes which comprise the renowned
Mediterranean Diet – they are extremely healthy.
Like its friend the sardine, the anchovy is an oily fish, packed
full of proteins and minerals, protecting against heart disease,
and “good” for cholesterol. What´s more, in many areas of Spain -
in particular the Mediterranean coast – fresh anchovies are
extremely cheap.
On first coming to Spain, I happily enjoyed many tapas of
boquerones, completely unaware of one fact … all those little
anchovies I had eaten were not cooked! For a moment, I deeply
regretted asking my Spanish neighbor, Carmen, how to make them!
Fortunately, Carmen went into immediate action and saved the day!
She frog-marched me to the local fishmongers, bought a kilo of the
little fish, took me home and showed me “her way” of preparing
them. They were so delicious that I quickly recovered my passion
for boquerones and have been enjoying them ever since!
Methods for preparing boquerones tend to vary slightly from family
to family. However, the basic principles are always the same.
You first have to clean and fillet the fish, which is simple
enough, but rather tedious until you get the hang of it.
Next, you soak the fillets, either in white wine vinegar or a
mixture of half vinegar and half water. The vinegar will clean
and bleach the fish and also soften any remaining little bones.
Some people sprinkle the fish with salt; others (myself included)
feel that the fish is salty enough already.
The fish has to be left for a good few hours soaking in the
vinegar. Again, this tends to vary, with some Spaniards leaving
them overnight in the fridge and others just waiting a couple of
hours. Also, some families change the vinegar/water-and-vinegar
mixture once during this process, whilst others don´t bother.
Once you have thrown away the vinegar, the bleached fillets are
covered with a good quality virgin olive oil, which will preserve
them. You can add as much, or as little, sliced garlic as you
wish, plus freshly chopped parsley.
So … here is the actual recipe.
BOQUERONES
Ingrediants:
- 1 kilo fresh anchovies.
- White wine vinegar.
- Virgin olive oil.
- Garlic.
- Parsley.
- Salt (optional).
Method:
1. Top and tail anchovies.
2. Slit along underside and discard innards.
3. Open out fish.
4. Remove central bone by lifting from tail end upwards.
5. Rinse well.
6. Place a layer of anchovy fillets in a shallow dish.
7. Sprinkle with salt (optional) and pour on plenty of vinegar.
8. Repeat with another layer, changing direction.
9. Leave to soak in vinegar for a few hours or overnight.
10. Pour off vinegar.
11. Very gently rinse fillets.
12. Cover fillets in virgin olive oil.
13. Add slices of garlic and chopped parsley.
It is so pleasant to find something in life that is a delight to
the senses, affordable, healthy and does nobody any harm
(apologies to any vegetarians out there and, also, the little
anchovies …). So … do make the most of fresh anchovies
whilst you are in Spain and enjoy!

After I watched all the videos by T.W. Jackson about break ups i started to think that maybe The Magic Of Making Up was not a scam. It seemed that T.W. Jackson provided a lot of support to his customers. When I saw how helpful he was I started to think that The Magic Of Making Up was not a scam.
I emailed T.W. Jackson to see if he would reply and he did. In his reply he told me that the book can help me get my ex back. He also said I had up to 8 weeks to get my money back. I was starting to get convinced that The Magic Of Making Up was not a scam.
I found out the book has worked for many people and it also comes with three bonus books that also helped people get their ex back. If the author really does what he says then maybe he really can help people. A lot of people highly recommend T.W. Jackson’s advice. I did some research to see if The Magic Of Making Up was a scam but I could not find any negative complaints saying that it was a scam. Every review that I came across had nothing but good things to say about The Magic Of Making Up. I even checked the Better Business Bureau to see if The Magic Of Making Up was a scam.
A lot of people were saying how T.W. Jackson and his book The Magic Of Making Up was not a scam. The more I thought about everything the more I found it harder to believe. I thought that Everything about The Magic Of Making Up was to good to be true. It looked like all the reviews I did read were just reviews from people that were promoting T.W. Jackson and his book The Magic Of Making Up. When T.W. Jackson said that he has helped over 6,100 people in over 67 countries I thought he was just making that up.There is so much hype for this product that a lot of people think it should be called The Magic Of Make Believe.
Since there is no negative reviews or complaints then The Magic Of Making Up must not be a scam. After all my research I have found out that there is only good things to say about T.W. Jackson and his book The Magic Of Making Up. The Magic Of Making Up could be a scam. If it is not a scam and everything is true then it would be a great way to learn how to get your ex back. It would also save you a lot of money by not having to spend money on a relationship consultant for advice.
Is there a Magic Of Making Up Scam? Some people are skeptical about T.W. Jackson. You can read The free Bonus guide to find out more about the book here: The Magic Of Making Up Scam

Wine is a social drink which should be enjoyed in the company of friends and .. food.
The right combination between food and wine is a source of ultimate bliss for every connoisseur. Both wine and food can benefit from the right pairing. The right wine can accentuate unexpected gastronomical aspects of food and vice versa, wine can shine in a new light when accompanied by the right dish. In order to savor the splendor of such combinations, one does not need to frequent expensive restaurants and buy overpriced wines. Rather, when combining food and wine it is one’s intuition and curiosity that are of paramount importance.
Most rules for agreeable food – wine combinations date back to the 19th century and are made by French cooks who travel around Europe showing other nations the French savoir-vivre. It is since then that we know that champagne goes well with oysters, white wine – with seafood, and red wine – with game and red meats. Those rules, however, have been broken many times throughout the years because the nature of certain dishes and the rich wine variety available allow for a much freer interpretation. For example, some red meats could be made more enjoyable by stronger white wines.
A more practical approach for combining wine with food is to avoid any possible dissonance between them. For example, an exceptional wine stands out much better when accompanied by a not so sophisticated dish that will bring out the wine’s superb qualities instead of fighting with it. Certain wines and foods have “found” each other over the years and represent especially suitable combinations. Generally those are the regional wines and foods. Almost all local dishes go best with the wines from their regions.
Some tips for making good food – wine choices:
Try to balance the weight of both, i.e. heavy dishes and those with a strong taste, such as game and red meat should be enjoyed with an equally heavy wine. In most cases those are red wines but some full-bodied whites could be an equally suitable alternative.
Dry wines could develop a very unpleasant sour or even bitter taste if served with desserts. Generally deserts are served with wines that are at least comparably sweet, if not sweeter.
Wines with high acidity go best with heavy, rich in fat dishes. This is because the high fat content negates the impact of the acid.
High-tannin wines should be combined with foods rich in proteins. The proteins combine with the tannins, thus diminishing the tannin taste. Wines made from grape varieties that contain a lot of tannins, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are an excellent match for red meats and other protein-rich foods. On the other hand, high-tannin wines acquire an unpleasant metallic taste if combined with fish and other seafood. Or they could have an extremely bitter taste when combined with salty dishes.
So finally… which wine? You could have in mind the rules above when making your selection but don’t be blinded by them and never take things for granted. Even when you are convinced that you have found the perfect wine for a certain dish, a small change, such as a bad yield, a change in the production technology, or other, could disappoint you. So have an open mind and be ready to experiment. Needless to say, a lot of times the results would be a bit strange but that’s what will make the whole experience interesting!!Did you find this article useful? Self-Confidence is a mental and emotional state of mind that responds to an individual’s need for self-acceptance and recognition. It is among the oldest and most discussed concepts in psychology. It describes a positive but nonetheless adequate perception of oneself and one’s abilities. As such, people with self confidence most often have a better idea of the things they are able to achieve and are more apt to succeed in what they attempt. They are also more likely to admit and learn from their errors.
By contrast, a lack of confidence may prevent you from trusting that what you do and decide will eventually work out the way you had intended. It can thus impede the improvement of decision-making aptitudes, strategic and managerial abilities all of which are basic and indispensable skills in the business world of today. The pre-occupation with other people’s judgment of your work might also make you become excessively self-critical, which is something that will distract you from tasks you would have otherwise been perfectly capable of doing.
Low self confidence will also have an impact your social life, because people with a low level of self confidence tend to stay in their “comfort zone” and are afraid of being rejected. This is called social phobia and is commonly associated with low self confidence, but also other mental conditions such as depression. People with low self confidence are scared of the judgment of others and will avoid meeting new people, which can in turn lead to isolation and even less self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious cycle that’s difficult to break.
On the other hand, because they have faith in their own abilities, people with self confidence are able to do what they feel is appropriate and don’t expect the approval of their peers. They are also able to trigger confidence: your relatives, friends, boss, customers or employees are more likely to trust you or the things you are saying when you appear self-confident.
Various experiences can contribute to low self confidence. Recent research proves that parenting style has a critical effect on the development of a child’s self confidence. Physical and emotional abuses during childhood are for example the worse for somebody’s self confidence, along with divorce and family conflicts. Overprotective parents may also be a reason for a child’s social phobia and discourage the independence necessary to develop self confidence. Successes and failures, for example at school or in one’s professional life, also play a major role: losing a job or failing a class are some of the different experiences that will have a negative impact your self confidence.
There are however methods to overcome those bad experiences and acquire self confidence. The first step to develop self confidence is to learn to know yourself and what your strengths are. Acknowledging the fact that you cannot be perfect and cannot be the best in everything you do will help you build self confidence. Accepting who you are is the key to building self confidence. But improving self confidence also requires that you start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your accomplishments. This is very basic advice which will help you build self confidence. You may also find a lot of books which will tell you how to gain self confidence, however many of them are not reliable.
Many people suffer from low self confidence or are only able to gain self confidence in one or a certain number of areas of their lives because they constantly try to get other people’s approval and are scared that they could fail. A lot of factors, such as childhood traumas, can explain why certain people are not able to have the wholesome life of a self confident individual. Those people also do not always know how to gain self confidence. But improving self confidence can now easily and effectively be done with hypnosis and NLP.
As we have seen before social phobia and low self confidence can stem from bad experiences or unconscious fears that are sometimes difficult to overcome with self persuasion only. Confidence hypnosis and NLP on the contrary are able to get to the unconscious part of our brain and change belief systems to boost self confidence. They are powerful tools that will help you face your fears and believe in yourself to develop self confidence.
Self Hypnosis for building self-confidence has been used for decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. Once in a hypnotic state, accessing unconscious thoughts is a lot easier and, thanks to hypnotic suggestion, it is possible to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to boost self confidence.

Life isn’t the sweetest candy. Sometimes, when I feel like the world is just too heavy, I look around and find people who continued to live fascinating and wonderful lives. And then thoughts come popping into my mind like bubbles from nowhere – “How did their life become so adorably sweet? How come they still can manage to laugh and play around despite a busy stressful life?” Then I pause and observed for a while… I figured out that maybe, they start to work on a place called ‘self’.
So, how does one become genuinely happy? Step 1 is to love yourself.
My theology professor once said that “loving means accepting.” To love oneself means to accept that you are not a perfect being, but behind the imperfections must lie a great ounce of courage to be able to discover ways on how to improve your repertoire to recover from our mistakes.
Genuine happiness also pertains to contentment. When you are contented with the job you have, the way you look, with your family, your friends, the place you live in, your car, and all the things you now have – truly, you know the answer to the question “how to be genuinely happy.”
When we discover a small start somewhere from within, that small start will eventually lead to something else, and to something else. But if you keep questioning life like it has never done you any good, you will never be able to find genuine happiness.
I believe that life is about finding out about right and wrong, trying and failing, wining and losing. These are things that happen as often as you inhale and exhale. Failure, in a person’s life has become as abundant and necessary as air. But this should not hinder us from becoming happy.
How to be genuinely happy in spite all these? I tell you… every time you exert effort to improve the quality of life and your being, whether it is cleaning up your room, helping a friend, taking care of your sick dog, fail on board exams and trying again, life gives you equivalent points for that.
Imagine life as a big score board like those which are used in the NFLs. Every time you take a step forward, you make scoring points. Wouldn’t it be nice to look at that board at the end of each game and think to yourself “Whew? I got a point today. I’m glad I gave it a shot.”, instead of looking at it all blank and murmur “Geez, I didn’t even hit a score today. I wish I had the guts to try out. We could have won!” and then walk away.
Genuine happiness isn’t about driving the hottest Formula 1 car, nor getting the employee of the year award, earning the highest 13th month pay, or beating the sales quota. Sometimes, the most sought after prizes in life doesn’t always go to the fastest, the strongest, the bravest or not even the best. So, how do you become genuinely happy? Every one has his own definition of ‘happiness’. Happiness for a writer may mean launching as many best selling books as possible. Happiness for a basketball rookie may mean getting the rookie of the year award. Happiness for a beggar may mean a lot of money. Happiness for a business man may mean success. So, really now, how do we become genuinely happy? Simple. You don’t have to have the best things in this world. Its about doing and making the best out of every single thing. When you find yourself smiling at your own mistake and telling your self “Oh, I’ll do better next time”, you carry with you a flame of strong will power to persevere that may spread out like a brush fire. You possess a willingness to stand up again and try – that will make you a genuinely happy person.
When you learn to accept yourself and your own faults. You pass step 1 in the project “how to become genuinely happy”. For as long as you know how to accept others, you will also be accepted. For as long as you love and know how to love, you will receive love ten fold back.
Again, throw me that same question “how to become genuinely happy?”. I’ll refer you to a friend of mine who strongly quoted- “Most of us know that laughter is the best medicine to life’s aches and pain. But most of us don’t know that the best kind of laughter is laughter over self. Coz then you don’t just become happy… you become free.”

A good place to start in planning your own stress management would be finding the roots of your stress. It can come from physical exertion and mental strain as well. We all have these things in our everyday life. Its effects on our overall being can vary dramatically from others experiences. For that reason your needs in stress management may indeed differ from theirs as well.
Dealing with the sources of stress is best when possible. Often these are the things we dwell and over worry about. Among them are finances family planning balancing work home and often dealing with others over expectations. A good place to start in stress management is to focus on what your limitations are. While it may seem at times you can move mountains dont forget after the move you will need a lot of rest.
Dealing with your stress effectively can be hard at times but must be done regularly to prevent health problems. By not dealing with your stress you could be setting yourself up for major heart attack or stroke with that being said here are 5 ways that could help you deal with your stress.
Secret No 1 Do Relaxation Checks
Stress causes us to lose energy through the unnecessary tensing of muscles. Unfortunately whenever we feel pressured or distressed over something this is the first thing we do. The most common ways to carry tension is to clench our jaws or tighten our shoulders. Do a physical check on unnecessary tension in the body throughout the day and purposely relax any tense muscles. This will take an extra effort to begin with but over time you will find that eventually habit will take over and you will no longer have to give any thought to staying relaxed
Secret No 2 Limit Caffeine Intake
Over stimulating our nervous system with caffeine can make us unnecessarily nervous and tense. I recommend no more than three cups of coffee a day for the average person with a minimum of two hours between each cup. However I know some people who become agitated if they have even one cup of coffee a day. So regulating caffeine intake needs to be a personal judgment call. Just keep in mind that tea and colas can contribute to caffeine jitters as well.
Secret No 3 Do Weekly Exercise
Exercise is a great mood lifter. It releases tension and fills the body with feel good chemicals. Aerobic exercise where the heart gets pumping is an especially effective in relieving stress. Three, 30-minute exercise sessions a week would be ideal. It would be enough to relieve stress without causing exhaustion and further stress trying to cope with a dwindling energy supply. However any exercise done even just once a week that is not too exhausting would be helpful.
Secret No 4 Take Slow Deep Breaths
Taking slow deep breaths when particularly anxious about something is an effective way to calm down. When we are under extreme stress our breathing becomes shallow and rapid. By slowing down and deepening the breath we are forcing ourselves into a more relaxed state. Its not good for a car to run on high revolutions and nor is it for the human machine. Taking slow deep breaths during stressful situations forces our physical self to slow down and puts pressure on our mind and emotions to follow suit.
Secret No 5 Deal with Stress Issues
Going through life with personal or relationship issues niggling at us will cause underlying tension. Sometimes we need to have a heart to heart with ourselves and look at what it is in our lives that is causing underlying tension. We may need to take some action to remedy a situation or we may just need to just change our attitude toward it. Either way we need to face anything that is bothering us and stop it from robbing our life and energy any further.
These five secrets to a stress free life take little effort and can be easily incorporated into your day. Remember you need not be at the mercy of a high pressured society because living a stress free life is your natural birthright

Why do some people achieve their goals and others don’t? The answer to this question is one of the most important concepts to understand if you are serious about becoming successful.
People get the goals that are aligned to their subconscious expectations and they don’t get the goal that are contrary to their subconscious expectation.
What do I mean by expectation?
One of the jobs of your subconscious mind is to keep your life “on track” but what is it keeping it on track to? We each have, in our subconscious mind, a model of what life should be like for us. This model is called your expectation.
Where do your expectations come from?
Your expectations comes from the sum total of all your life experiences to date. That includes every thing that you have done, heard, said, read, seen, and experienced. The stronger the emotional impact of an experience or the greater the repetition of an experience, the greater the contribution it makes to your expectation.
How does your expectation influence your life?
Your subconscious uses your expectation as the guide to decide what is “normal” for you. This is a very important function as our survival depends on our ability to behave consistently. This goes right back through our species history all the way to the caveman days. If our caveman ancestor did not possess a drive toward consistency then he would never have learned how to successfully hunt or gather food or how to reliably avoid being eaten by predators.
We live a very different life today to the life lived by the cavemen but our brains are almost identical. Our subconscious still looks to help us be consistent and it does that by building our expectation and keeping us true to it.
If your expectations are subconscious then how do you know what they are?
It is very easy to tell what your subconscious expectations are; just look at your life. What you have and who you are is the reflection of your subconscious expectation.
How do you change your expectations?
We’ve all experienced what it is like to go against our subconscious expectations. It is usually referred to as being outside our comfort zone. The feeling can range from mild discomfort up to extreme distress depending on how far outside our comfort zone we are.
Successfully changing an unwanted expectation is a two step process.
Step 1: Scramble the unwanted expectation.
There are many powerful techniques that are used to scramble unwanted expectations. I’ll give you a simple exercise that combines two of the techniques.
Firstly hold in your mind an image of you experiencing the unwanted expectation. Then fade that image so the colors are duller, the image is blurred any sounds associated with that image are distorted and unintelligible. Then imagine that image being broken up and rearranged like mixing up pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
The more scrambled you make the image the weaker the subconscious pattern becomes.
Step 2: Now you need to immediately install a new expectation.
The best way to install a new expectation is by using affirmations. Give yourself an affirmation for each characteristic of the new expectation that you want to develop. Make sure that the affirmation is in positive, present moment language.
Repetition increases the power of these techniques.
If you repeat the scrambling exercise each day and follow it immediately with the affirmations then soon you will have your subconscious expectation lining up with your conscious goals and then achieving your goals will be easier than ever before.

In Basketball, Goal-Tending is not a good thing! In life…tending to your Goals is not only a good thing…it’s essential to success.
It has become popular lately to bash Goal setting! Some say it’s a waste of time! I believe that Goals are the seeds of dreams, and a dream is like an invisible escort, guiding you…leading you … and propelling you toward your destiny through Life Training.
I agree with the great orator, Yogi Berra, who once said…“If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”
Goals unify people, motivate them, and focus their talent and energy. They are the first step … and without them, most journeys never begin. Without Goals, you have signed the death warrant to your dreams. So, most unfulfilled dreams are the result of not having clear-cut objectives and Goals in the first place.
When a Goal is set, it must be clear so you can maintain focus. A clear-cut vision refuses to look to the left or the right. It stays focused! If you lose focus you’ll see all the obstacles…and there will always be obstacles. You learn that in Life Training.
Henry Ford said…“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your Goals.”
The more you look at your Goals the clearer they become. The more you look at the obstacles the bigger they become!
Your Goal is also like the sail on a sailboat. It determines your direction. The wind does not determine your ultimate direction, how you set your sail does. It’s not the gale; it’s the sail that determines your ultimate destination.
A teacher asked a student, “If you mowed 12 lawns at $8.50 each, what would you have?” The student said without hesitation, “A new bicycle!” He knew what his Goal was!
Life Training teaches us that most victories are not won in miles, but in inches. Inch by inch…focused on the Goal …eyes on the prize!
When you are setting Goals, it’s important to prioritize them. Don’t be like the blonde who suspected that her husband was having an affair, so she went to the pawnshop and traded her watch for a handgun. When she came home, her husband was in bed with a redhead, so she held the gun to her own head. The husband was pleading and begging her not to kill herself so she said, ‘‘shut up, you’re next.” She definitely lost sight of her priorities!
A Goal is a dream with a deadline. Set the Goal…set a time frame and move forward! Be specific! Don’t be like the old boy who said, “All my life I said I wanted to be someone…I can see now that I should have been more specific.”
The Goals we set today make a reservation for our future. We have to make plans now for where we want to be tomorrow! Set Goals…and act on them! Be guilty of Goal-Tending!
This is not new. It’s not novel. But it is necessary. And it’s powerful!

Human race has undergone a tremendous transition in the past century with computers breaking every limit and making every dream a possibility. The flexibility of this micro processor driven machine has brought an enormous technological advancement in all the fields that we can imagine off. No wonder that it also has brought plenty of advancement to the automobile industry which stands a pioneer for technological advancement.
Starting from steam powered vehicles to the present hydrogen cell cars; sky is the limit for automobile manufacturers. However, automobile industry underwent some bad times between the years from 1960 to 1980, where all the car manufacturers used the same technology, almost the same designs. They just concentrated on making money from their new cars without investing anything in to research and development. This attitude of the manufacturers slowed down the technological advancements in the new cars and it even came to a halt at some point of time. Computers, with a globalized market turned the table for the new car companies and it revolutionized the automobile industry.
Now, new car companies have realized that by investing a considerable amount in the development of future technologies, they will be able to bring stability to their business model which automatically increases the profit of these new car manufacturers.
Each and every automobile company who manufactures new cars and services used cards is working towards one common goal, it is to develop a car that is eco friendly, which is more efficient, and which is totally safe.
As a result of hard work done by the research and development teams of every automobile company, we already have a glimpse of some wonderful inventions that can be used for both used cars and new cars.
Below given are the details of some real inventions that will be imparted in our future cars and also in the used cars that we have now.
- Regenerative breaking is a technology where in the wasted heat , which is produced while applying breaks is again in converted to usable energy, thus by increasing the energy efficiency of the vehicle . This technology can be imparted in both new and used cars.
- Researchers at the Brunel University( United Kingdom) has developed a hybrid engine which compresses the air, converts it to a form which the engine can use, thus by reducing the fuel consumption of the engine to 30%.This technology can be imparted to both new and used cars.
- Automobile giant BMW has developed a technology called the “Turbo steamer” which helps to harness the heat expelled by the internal combustion engines and generates mechanical energy from it. This technology can mostly be imparted in the new cars than the used cars.
- Carbon Nano tubes will replace steel, which makes the car safer and more energy efficient. This technology can only be used in the new cars.
- Nano technology will also be imparted in the engines of the car, giving the driver options to change the engine type. With some basic alterations, this technology can be adopted in the used cars also.
These are tip of the iceberg that automobile industry is about to unravel in the future. With new technology coming up every day, automobile giants are getting set to change the conventional transport system throughout the world, forever!

There always many things to do when you move home. Below are a few tips that will help.
Electricals
In an ideal world we would still have all the boxed our goods came in, but in the real world this usually isn’t the case. Make sure all leads and cables (and reassembly instructions) are packed together and again, use those labels! Also make sure you defrost any fridges or freezers in advance to avoid mess and ensure safety when these are moved.
Plants
Water all plants a day or two before the move so that you’re not creating hazards with leaking pots. Shallow boxes are useful for small plants and a bin liner over the top of larger ones can be a simple way to prevent damage during relocation.
The shed!
Sheds can often contain items that are not easy to pack such as sharp and strangely shaped tools, as well as flammable and toxic liquids and paints. Have a good sort through the shed and garden well in advance. Carefully dispose of anything you don’t need, drain fuel from any petrol run machinery and secure other liquids, wrap up well (ideally in materials that won’t melt or corrode) and mark any packaging very clearly so the removals firm knows what it contains.
Food and drink
Ideally, run down all supplies of food and drink that could spoil in the run up to the move, especially frozen goods. For things you are moving make sure containers are secure and sealed – use plastic bags, tape and Tupperware and wrap and pack glass containers carefully. Use this is a good excuse for a takeaway on the eve of your move or if you’re really organised you can prepare packed lunches! (although remember no fridge to keep them in!)
Lights and other wall fittings
Don’t forget lampshades and any wall light fittings if you are taking those with you. Be sure to turn off the electricity before trying to dismantle them. Also when you look around a room and think it’s empty you’ll probably find you’ve forgotten things like coat hooks which you’re so used to looking at they have become part of the house!
Large furniture
Beds are generally fairly easy to disassemble but be sure you know how to take them apart (and put them back together!) as this is likely to be one of the last things you dismantle but probably one of the first things you will need to use the other end! Good quality furniture like wardrobes will also be fiddly but can come apart. Flat pack furniture not so. This can be notoriously tricky to move as may have been glued together in parts and generally can’t be taken to pieces. If it can be, ask a representative of your removals firm to assist you the other end in putting it back together or how best they would recommend moving whole pieces.

Although moving home can be stressful, it’s also exciting! To ensure you stay positive about all the associated upheaval read through this handy checklist for pain free home removals.
Make a list!
It sounds obvious but taking the time to prepare before you pack up anything will really help to ensure your home removal runs smoothly. Think about each room and also what will go into each box. Use a system, however simple, to list items in rooms and then in boxes and number or code them for easy reference the other end. Consider putting a copy of the list as the last thing that goes in the box so as soon as you open it, you know what’s in there.
Prepare your packaging in advance
Gone are the days when we could get all our boxes from supermarkets or large stores (they’re too good at recycling!) so think ahead to get a rough idea of how many boxes or crates you might need, as well as specialist packaging such as bubble wrap or soft material for fragile or oversize items. Home removal companies often have handy online tools to help you work out how many boxes you might need as well as being able to supply useful stuff like tape, string, marker pens and so on. This will also help you pack in advance rather than thinking you can leave it to moving day – which always results in a lot of additional stress and often tears!
Label!
Clearly labelling all your boxes and other containers will reduce headaches when it comes to unloading and unpacking the other end.
It also helps home removal companies to know where things need to go and remember that they can also help with unpacking. Never underestimate how useful professional removal firms can be!
Efficient packing
There really is an art to packing a box effectively. Books, DVD’s and other such objects are easy enough but don’t forget how heavy they can become. Even the strongest removals man might struggle with an entire set of encyclopedias in one box however satistfying it feels to fill it! Similarly, don’t underfill your boxes. Remember that as you are labelling box number 123, you’re totting up the number you have to unpack and that somebody has to move! Fine if you have a couple of weeks of work, not so good otherwise.
Wrap breakable stuff carefully and consider strong sacks for soft squidgy stuff that doesn’t need to be so protected.
Soft furnishings
Be careful with these – anything with soft edges or light coloured material can get easily damaged when it is moved or packed in against other not so soft things. Consider covering with throws or similar to ensure they are protected.

“Fear is a beast that feeds on the unknown. Define the unknown and fear will retreat.” – Jamie L. Saloff
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Jamie L. Saloff for about a year now. She’s a real dynamo and dedicated to helping others. If you meet her anytime soon, you’ll never guess the horrors she has survived. As Happiness Horror Stories go on the AIR Equation, they start horribly but always have a happy ending.
She is the author of the book “Transformational Healing: Five Surprisingly Simple Keys Designed to Redirect Your Life Toward Wellness, Purpose, and Happiness.” An internet guru even before the internet was popular, she is the site builder and owner of Polka Dot Banner–a website that promotes authors and their books and bring them together with those who love reading and writing (there she goes helping people again).
In all that she does, she looks for ways of motivating people to be the best they can be, always offering encouragement towards their dreams and higher pursuits. She feels that total wellness and inner happiness can come from fulfilling one’s higher calling and purpose. Jamie offers workshops and teleseminars on the principals of her book.
Welcome to the AIR Equation: The 3-Part Formula For Happiness.
AIR: TELL US A HORROR STORY YOU LIVED THROUGH THAT HAD A HAPPY ENDING.
SALOFF: It started when my doctor said, “It’s a malignancy.”
“Cancer?” I asked.
“A malignancy,” he corrected. He avoided looking me in the eyes. My 2 year old son explored the small examination room at will. No one stopped him. We were transfixed on every word the doctor said and tried to read in between the lines to find out what he was not saying. I refer to his words now as the “Don’t pass go, do not collect $200, halt all your plans, and go directly to the hospital” message.
Thus began what I call the “Merry-go-round of Cancer.” Note the capital “C” on cancer. A friend of mine once corrected me. “Cancer doesn’t have a capital ‘C’,” he said. “Have you ever had cancer,” I asked? “No,” he replied. “If you’d ever had cancer, you’d capitalize the ‘c’ too,” I said.
When you first learn you have cancer, life becomes a fast-turning merry-go-round. From this merry-go-round there is no escape. You are instantly required to show up for tests, many which you never even knew existed; respond to the beck-and-call of your doctors, of which you now learn you have many; accept the fact that you are now surrounded by well-wishing relatives, most of whom seem to not know what to say and often say the wrong thing. You suddenly find you have no friends except for the really faithful ones, because the others put a lot of distance between you and themselves-after all, it might be catching, or at the very least, uncomfortable for them to be around you. It makes them think too much about the impermanence of life. This is also where you are able to see the dividing line between “friend” and “forever faithful friend.” The distinction of who is who will surprise you. You find during this period of “Cancer” that you have little or no say in most of the decisions affecting your life. Someone else is always making them for you. You are in such turmoil inside that you aren’t really thinking all that clear, so it doesn’t seem to matter what they make you do.
My husband decided he did not want to put my name on the title of our new car. “It will make things easier,” he said, “…just in case.” My mother called up all her friends (and some of mine) and told them I was going to die. Each time I left the hospital, I found I felt worse than when I went in. My doctor continued to look at the floor or out the window each time he came in. He simply could not look me in the eye. I nicknamed my oncologist (one of the specialists on the case) “Mr. Car Salesman,” because he could talk circles around every question I asked (and there were many), while never giving a straight answer. He would tell me I was going to live, but I knew I was going to die.
AIR: SOUNDS LIKE YOU WERE REALLY AFRAID. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
SALOFF: One night in the hospital, I watched a documentary about a woman with “Cancer.” (It was definitely a capital “C” for her.) She had endured tremendous hardships through treatment. The documentary ended with one of those black screens saying she had died after the filming. I didn’t feel I had much to look forward to, and I greatly feared the chemotherapy I had been told I would soon have. As I lay there in my hospital bed, I pondered all of this and silently prayed that God would “make a way where there was no way,” one of my favorite prayerful sayings. At that moment, it was as if an elevator door opened up at the foot of my bed and a vision began.
In my vision, I saw Jesus standing in the elevator. He asked me if I wanted to live or die. I had never thought of life as being a choice before, or that I might have any say in the matter. Jesus brought to memory a faith healer I had known who had nearly died but who had also seen a vision. She had been told it was not yet her time to die and that God had work for her to do. Jesus told me he had work for me also, but he wouldn’t say what. (It was kind of like the game show, “Let’s Make a Deal,” and I wasn’t privy to what was behind each door.)
I thought about the chemotherapy and asked what I would have to endure. Jesus would not tell me what I would face since he knew that each choice we make, each step forward we take, can change the outcome of where we will be and what we will be doing tomorrow. He did, however, remind me of a vision I’d had some years earlier of a special baby that would come into my life. Although my doctors had already told me I was sterile and that further treatment would lower my ability to give birth even more, still I latched on to that single possibility and used it as my hope and sign that life could go on after “Cancer.” So I told Jesus, “I choose to live!”
Many things befell me after that. However, the most important change came when I decided that I was in charge of the decisions concerning my life. I insisted my family take me to a larger hospital where my course of treatment changed from extensive and evasive chemotherapy to only radiation therapy. Although I still clung to the hope of having another child, they too assured me that this was no longer a possibility.
Approximately 30 days after my last radiation treatment, I was found to be pregnant. At the time, only 500 cases were on record for my diagnoses and treatment. My doctors, asked me, “How did this happen?” I explained, “Well, when a man and woman come together…” But that was not the answer they wanted. My gynecologist was not really sure what to do with a heavily radiated, pregnant, cancer survivor, so he just did what he would do normally and let the pregnancy proceed normally. That was in 1985.
AIR: HOW DID THIS HORROR TURN INTO HAPPINESS?
SALOFF: Today, I have two fine sons, Matthew and Mark. Mark, though born more than 7 weeks early and weighing a mere 3 pounds, 15 ounces, today stands nearly six feet, five inches tall and weighs around 225 pounds. Both are among the greatest gifts God has ever given to me, that and the gift of life.
From this experience I learned that illness is a catalyst for change and for finding purpose. I learned that even though illness can be the worst period of your life, it can lead to the best of your life and transform you into a better you. I learned that I have choices and that I can create my destiny. These are among the things I teach others.
AIR: ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING, COURTESY OF THE AIR EQUATION. INSPIRATION IS STRONG MEDICINE FOR UNHAPPINESS.
SALOFF: If you are facing an illness, decide that you can choose to live. Decide that you have the right to make choices in your treatment, in your doctors, in how you will live each day. Know that like wellness, illness has a purpose in your life too. Accept illness as a gift and catalyst for change. Find the good in these changes and embrace them. Seek out others who have overcome what you face and learn from their trials. Hang on to the inner most desires of your heart at all costs, and reach out for them.
