Who are you and what do you do?
January 26th, 2009 by joyduling“Ok…I’ll give you 60 seconds to tell me why I should listen to you.”
Whether it is actually verbalized or just inferred, every entrepreneur has heard it and every entrepreneur needs to know how to respond.
One of the best ways to tackle this challenge head on is to always be prepared with a 60-second infomercial. Other times you might have a few moments to prepare.
Below is an example of a 60-second infomercial format adapted from the work of Dr. Ivan Misner, who is often referred to as the father of modern networking.
1-Introduction: your name, company name, and overview of company (10 secs)
2- Body: product, or service you are focusing on and what is the benefit (what do you do or have you done) (30 secs)
3- Request for referral: “Who do you know who….” open ended question (10 secs)
4- How to contact you (5 secs)
5- Memory Hook (5 secs)
Why this matters
Although it is important to always be prepared to promote yourself and your business, it is also important to do it professionally and that takes thought and preparation.
Writing out different infomercials and keeping them handy will allow you to respond to the challenge. Remember, practice makes perfect!
