Beauty Basics Tips

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

If your skin is dry and easily irritated, don’t wash more than once a day. You may risk stripping the skin of its natural oils.
oLook for non-irritating cleansing washes that are soap-free.
oUse light, oil-free, water-based moisturizers to help maintain the skin’s natural barrier.
oMake sure to choose a facial moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15, which protects against both UVB and UVA rays.

Skin sensitivity may also result from the third most common, non-surgical skincare procedure known as Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a quick and easy, non-invasive procedure that helps to reveal healthier-looking skin by sweeping away dead skin cells.
oDr. Franks reveals that, following the treatment, the best way to avoid irritation is by opting for an ultra-gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
oA new clinical study shows that PURPOSE gentle cleansing wash and dual treatment moisture lotion with spf 15 are compatible with this procedure.

How else can you obtain optimal skin health? Dr. Franks says, “Exercise opens up blood vessels to make skin look healthy and youthful. It’s so important for healthy skin.”
oRegular cardiovascular exercise increases blood flow to the skin which assists in collagen production.
oMaintaining muscle mass through exercise can also help anchor and support skin, keeping it taut.
oAnd drink up! At least eight, eight-ounce glasses of water a day are crucial for optimal skin hydration.

So before you sign on for an extreme and expensive makeover, just think back on some simple, beauty basics! You just might like what you see!

Despite the media coverage of makeover reality shows, the majority of Americans are not looking for extreme transformations. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, most of us want to look better, naturally, with 68-percent preferring a subtle change. And experts agree that looking your best could be accomplished at home for considerably less.

Dr. Linda Franks, a leader in the specialized skin care frontier, says “To get that timeless, healthy look you need to start with an appropriate skincare regime. Taking good care of your skin can stave off fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and even dry skin.”

Doctors say whatever your skin type, the key is to cleanse it gently.
oAvoid hot water and use lukewarm instead, to prevent over-drying.
oAnd throw in the towel – traditional washcloths are too abrasive for the face, so use your hands and fingers.

Sixty-eight-percent of women claim to have sensitive skin which means dry, tight, chapped or easily irritated skin.
oMoisturize regularly.
oAvoid harsh cleansers with ingredients such as fragrances, dyes and preservatives because sensitive skin is easily damaged and takes longer to recover.

Pillows Are Not Just For Sleeping

Monday, March 24th, 2008

A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor s book (Irish Proverb). However, getting to sleep is sometimes the problem. With all our pressures, problems and pains of everyday living, it is no wonder that millions suffer from sleep disorders. According to a national survey, 54% of adults said they have experienced insomnia at one time or another. Additionally, back pain, neck stiffness, muscle injuries and menopause can add to sleeplessness.

Today, pillows are not just something fluffy to place beneath our head at night. They are chiropractor approved, sleep doctor designed and specifically created to assist in pain relief, snoring cessation, spinal alignment, neck support, headache relief, joint strain pain, arthritis relief, sleep apnea and much more, while accommodating and stabilizing injuries and conditions. The basic sleeping pillow filled with foam or feathers is a thing of the past.

The fillings for pillows have also changed. Feathers and foam are still available, but new materials have been introduced such as buckwheat hulls, mustard seeds, memory foam and new types of fiber. Added to that are pillows filled with air and/or water and magnetic therapy pillows. These different surfaces provide different types and levels of support for the body and can, over time, heal and correct certain conditions such as degenerative discs, sleep apnea, snoring, insomnia, etc.

How often have you had to punch your pillow into a shape that supports your neck and is comfortable for sleeping? Most of us have had to do this at one time or another. Now, pillows are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. Listed below are a few specific pillows designed to aid sleep:

• Econo Wave Pillow: this pillow has a wavy surface to allow air to circulate while soothing and supporting the neck.
• Buckwheat Hull or Mustard Seed Pillows: these pillows can conform to any shape, come in a multitude of sizes, provide air circulation, help reduce stiff neck and insomnia and come in a variety of scents. Mustard seeds are also believed to relieve backache, joint pain, muscle aches, rheumatism or migraine headaches, while buckwheat hulls provide support and cooling of the head and neck and can help reduce stiff neck and insomnia.
• Air Core Adjustable Pillow: a cervical fiber pillow with a trapezoid shaped center that adjusts the level of support using an air pump and can reduce snoring by correcting blocked airways.
• AquaCore 3 in 1 Pillow: This pillow consists of fiber, resilient foam, plus and easy, fill to your level water cushion that addresses the cause of pain and restores proper neck curvature.
• Leg Spacer: This specialty pillow helps relieve pressure and strain on the lower back, knees and ankles and helps relax muscles while sleeping by placing the pillow between your knees.
• Headache Ice Pillo: This pillow uses medically recommended cold therapy in treating dull, moderate and severe tension or migraine headaches.
• Dreamzz Magnetic Sleeping Pillow: Get a great sleep and wake up refreshed while sleeping on this pillow that produces a calming therapeutic magnetic field that soothes away tension and stress while sleeping.

Pillows are also available for neck support, back support and headache relief:

• The Magnetic Lumbar Pillow is a half roll foam pillow that relieves pain due to muscle strains, sprains, sciatica and herniated discs by delivering a deep penetrating bio north magnetic field.
• The Jackson Roll is a versatile fiber filled support pillow that provides comfort and support for muscle and joint pain, as well as adding curvature to your spine. (I can personally attest that this works to help relieve the pain of degenerative discs.)
• The Soothe A Ciser foam pillow helps relieve headaches and neck pain.

These are just a few of the pillows offered on the market today, along with many others that address specific conditions or injuries. The response of the public to these specialty pillows has been tremendous and will grow in popularity as sleep conditions, sleep disorders and aches and pains multiply. Also, these pillows provide a noninvasive method of relieving and perhaps eliminating pain without medication or surgery.

The Best Way to Make You Look Young - Anti Aging Serum

Friday, March 21st, 2008

With developments in science and the cosmetics industry, there are now five different types of product that help you fight the acts of aging; anti aging serum is amongst the best. Serum works by enhancing your body’s production of collagen which makes your skin become taut and relaxed. Great results come from using the product after about four weeks, although after a week you will notice some changes that will be significant for both yourself and others to notice.

4 Anti aging ingredients that help reverse aging

1. Anti aging Serum – this isn’t number one because its the best, but more because of its ease of use and many people who have used products that contain the serum have noticed very good results. Anti aging serum that works the best will generally contain retinal and vitamin A, which will help your skin form and look beautiful in a matter of weeks.

2. Peptides – being number two, they have a right to be closely ranked behind anti aging serum. Peptides are reactants that tell your body to make more collagen, which helps your skin become more supple and relaxed, but tightens at the same time, making your skin look and feel better with every cream application you make. Applications should be applied regularly, however, as if you reduce the amount (or stop totally) the applications of the skin care cream, then your skin will probably also stop doing the lovely things that it has been doing.

3. Vitamin C – For centuries, vitamin C has been termed a great vitamin to help in the fight against aging skin. It is considered by many to be one hundred times more effective than other elements when fighting free radicals (free radicals are bad and cause your skin to age), with its ability to be over 20 times as powerful as vitamin E, when looking at the promotion and care of your beautiful skin. If you find this in an anti aging serum product, then you have a product that will work wonders fro your ongoing skin care, as the epigallocathechin (mainly found in green tea) acts as a freedom fighter against the signs of aging and so promotes the appearance of your skin.

4. Ani-Botox peptides – another peptide element which will help your skin. You may know it as its common term of argireline, which will provide your skin with an instant face lift, but without the need for any needles. The results show the same outcomes as Botox – so, your muscles will be relaxed and contracted to remove the wrinkles from those nasty line areas. Like any other product, the longer you use this, the better results you will have, with trials in various clinics across the country showing that this type of treatment showed that 100% of people had a 30% reduction of wrinkles on their skin in under 4 weeks of use – simply amazing.

Overall, Vitamin C is probably the best and most commonly know ingredient that can be used to tackle free radicals in your skin. This vitamin is found in many forms of concentrated anti aging serum capsules, and in most test has shown to be the best combination in a capsule to combat the anti aging process.
