Out west there is a place that words and pictures can only begin to describe. The awesome landscape, the breathtaking view of the open space that spreads out before you is something that we should all strive to see at least once in our lifetime. I’m talking about the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
The first time someone visits in the Grand Canyon they can truly appreciate the vastness and wonder of it all. You can enjoy the view from above or go on a guided excursion down in the canyon. The best way to experience it is to do both.
Once you are in Arizona, there are plenty of other things that you need to do as well. If you are a golfer, you need to head to Scottsdale, Arizona and play a few rounds. There are over 300 golf courses all over the state, but Scottsdale is well known for its golf.
Rich in Native American culture, while in Arizona you can visit with different tribes to learn about their history and customs. Local artist make everything from pottery to rugs to woven baskets. At different times of the year you can also experience festivals and special events put on by different tribes.
If you like nature and being outside, then Arizona will not disappoint you. There is hiking, biking, canoeing and horseback riding among other things. Even though Arizona is known for hot weather, it is not humid, so many people find it very tolerable all year round for outdoor activities. It has become a favorite vacation place for those wishing to escape the cold of winter.
One of the favorite activities for many people to do is to just get in the car and drive to explore every nook and cranny of the state. There is the beauty of the dessert as well as lush, green places alive with vibrant colorful flowers. When on the road, you can feel the vastness of the state as a country drive can mean not seeing a car for a good period of time. Don’t forget your map!
Arizona is a great place to go for a family friendly vacation as well as a romantic getaway. From the beauty of the Grand Canyon to the abundance of nature to the rich history of the state, there is something for everyone waiting in Arizona.
Have you ever run through the airport? I have and let me tell you, it is not something that I want to do any more than what I have to. I have been ushered out of line at the airport and rushed down to security because the line was so long and so slow that I was going to miss my flight. There are times when all of us are running a little further behind than what we want to be running but there are ways to shave some precious minutes off of the wait at the airport. Here are some tips that will help to get you from your car to the gate in the shortest time possible.
1. Online Check In – One thing that you should take advantage of is the online check in that many of the airlines now offer. Although you have to do this within about 24 hours of your flight it will help you to make the trip from the car down to security much faster. They have kiosks inside the airport set up for those of you that have taken advantage of online flight check in and you can also use one of the porters that are outside and will take your bags and check you in. The lines outside are generally much shorter and move a lot faster than the lines inside. Just make sure that you tip the porter for his trouble.
2. Prepare for Security – Don’t wait until you are in line at the security check point to prepare. You should walk into that line already prepared to go straight through. Some of the things that you can do to speed up the process is have your cell phone and any other objects in your pocket stored in your carry on bag, wear shoes that are easy to take on and off, be ready to take out your video camera and laptop and place them in a separate bin and have your ticket and id ready for inspection.
By keeping these two things in mind when preparing for a trip to the airport you will help to speed up the time it take you to get to the gate. This will give you extra time to sit and relax with a cup of coffee or whatever you like, or if you are running late it will help you not to miss your flight.
One of my favorite timeshares that I own is the Disney Vacation Club timeshare points. I own a few other timeshares as well, one in the Caribbean and another in Hawaii, but I don’t always take advantage of those timeshares because they make me take a week’s vacation at a time. Now I do love to get away and I tend to go away often but taking a week away someplace where I am out of touch for an entire week really is a difficult thing for me to do. That is why I enjoy the points system so much when it comes to timeshares because you don’t need to take an entire week at a time and since I live in Florida it is a great thing for me to just pick up and go on a quick one or two day getaway at one of the Disney properties whenever I want. But you still need to make your points go as far as you can, here are some tips to help you to make them work better for you.
1. Weekdays rule, weekends drool - If you really want to make your vacation points last a long time you need to drop the weekend and holiday trips. I have 250 points to use throughout the year and I take advantage of every opportunity to go away but I do not use them on the weekends if I can avoid it. The points tend to rise sharply on the weekends and I can go twice as many days if I make them a weekday getaway. Some friends of ours use their points for going away for a week at Labor Day. It takes a lot of their points away for the year and they aren’t able to go away as often.
2. Shop Around a Little - Different Disney properties charge different amounts of points at times and at different times of the year. If you are going to go to Disney on vacation for a day or two and you can stay for a few points less at the Wilderness Villas than you could if you stayed at the Disney Boardwalk why not take advantage of the lower points price. If you spend the days in the park you can still enjoy the comfort of the Disney room at night and if you like hanging out at the Boardwalk take a bus over there and spend some time.
Yes, sometimes it takes a little creativity to make your Disney Timeshare points go a little further but in the end it is well worth the effort.
If you are looking for a place to vacation with almost unparallel beauty, where nature abounds and where there is still untouched land waiting to be explored, then Alaska is calling your name. From the land or from a cruise ship, visiting and taking in the sites and sounds of Alaska creates memories that last a life time.
When some people think of Alaska, they automatically think of cold weather and the very short or very long days that are experienced in this remote state. Yes, of course it is cooler than say, Southern Florida, but there are plenty of times a year where the weather is bearable. So, if you don’t like to freeze, you can still find times to visit Alaska where a sweater or light jacket will suffice.
One of the best ways to experience Alaska is to take an Alaskan cruise. This way you can enjoy the spectacular scenery from the water and from close up when you stop at your various ports of call. To truly realize the size of an ice burg or the natural beauty of this state, a cruise is the way to go. You have the luxury and comfort of the cruise ship and still get to explore different cities and villages.
Don’t forget to bring your camera! You will know what I mean once you get there. You might never experience anything as awesome as what you see here. From whale watching in the ocean to the local customs you will experience in towns such as Anchorage or Nome, a camera will help capture your memories.
Consider staying at a bed and breakfast to get to know some of the locals. There are nature hikes available as well as fishing excursions and day cruises. You can’t leave without purchasing some of the many local crafts available. Ask locals for good places to eat. There might be a restaurant or pub not listed in your tourist information that will give you a taste of the local cuisine.
Grab your camera, grab your coat and get your Alaskan vacation booked. Once you head there one time, it will call you back again and again. Many of those who live there will tell you that they just came to visit, felt like they had found their home and new that they could never leave the beauty of Alaska.
Have you ever been on a flight that crosses an ocean? The time can be very hard spent, especially if you are not prepared for all the possibilities of the flight. I know that on a recent flight from the USA to England I was prepared in the ways that I’m about to tell you. It helped to make the flight go along as smoothly as possible, at least in ways that I had control over, and the time that I spent on the flight was at times relaxing and at other times was productive. Here are some tips to help you with your overseas flight.
1. Prepare Your Bag well - There are things that you should carry on with you in a smaller bag that you can keep at your seat. These should include some good noise canceling headphones, a pad and pencil in case you have a thought that you need to remember, spare batteries for your headset, a crossword puzzle book and a book to read.
2. Pack an Extra Seat - Sitting for hours and hours can be hard on the backside. Make sure that you have an extra seat packet (or use an airplane pillow if you forget). Starting your trip with a sore backside is no way to go.
3. Book an Extra Seat - If you are traveling with someone else try booking your seats one apart from each other. Sometimes the seat in between the two of you will not be filled and you will have a little more elbow room.
Just keep these few things in mind and you will make your flight experience a more pleasant one. Don’t overlook the power naps that can be taken to help you be fresher when you arrive. That way you will have a smoother transition with your flight lands.
There are a lot of reasons why someone would sit through a timeshare presentation. One of the most important of those reasons is that you can get a lot of really cool discounts on your vacation if you allow them to pitch the timeshare with you. The only problem is that a lot of people end up walking out of there owning a timeshare that they really don’t want. The good news is that you really would like a timeshare, but you may not want the one that they are pitching to you. Here is how you can make sure that you choose the right timeshare for you and your family.
Timeshares come in two basic types, the ones that give you a week of time and another that uses a points system. If you are the type of person who enjoys taking a week long vacation no matter what they the week long type will work well for you. If you like breaking your vacation up into smaller getaways then go for the points. You should also look at where you are buying. If you buy in someplace like Hawaii, and make sure that it is a very highly rated timeshare you will have a much better chance of being able to trade your timeshare if you want to swap weeks.
Keep these two things in mind when you sit through the timeshare presentation. By making sure that you are getting what you want before you go into the meeting you will make sure that you don’t walk out with something that you don’t want.
If you are looking for a place to visit that is packed with family fun, consider heading to Alabama. From the mountains to the city to the ocean, Alabama has a little bit of something for everyone. Many people don’t realize the abundance of activities available to enjoy in Alabama. Those who live in Alabama want to share the fun with you.
If your family enjoys hiking, then you need to visit the mountains in Eastern Alabama. You can stay in a cabin, go camping or simply hike a trail for the day. The views are spectacular, no matter what time of the year it is from the vibrant fall colors to the bright greens in the spring.
Cities such as Birmingham have a lot of cultural events open to families. Check out the many science museums in Alabama. There is also a Butterfly exhibit in Alabama that you can visit and walk among hundreds of butterflies that is very magical for kids. Don’t forget to head to Tuscaloosa to take in an Alabama football game. They are serious about football and the pre and post game activities are just as exciting as the game itself. Their rivals in Auburn, Alabama also put on a good game.
The beaches in south Alabama along the gulf coast are beautiful and the water is a magnificent color. Families can enjoy a fun day at the beach, building sand castles and playing in the waves. Play a round of miniature golf and eat some homemade icecream to round out the day’s activities.
There is so much to do in Alabama that you can’t get it all done in one trip. The family friendly atmosphere and hospitality will keep you coming back for years to come. From the mountains to the ocean to the many cultural and nature activities available in Alabama, there is something for everyone in this southern state.
It was on a fall day not too long ago when I was about ready to make a trip from Dulles in Washington DC to Heathrow airport in London. I was flying on one carrier from Dulles to JFK and then another on the second leg to Heathrow. Since I got to the airport early I decided to walk around to keep myself occupied and then I went down to the gate about an hour before takeoff and proceeded to fall asleep right there at the gate. When I finally woke up everyone was gone and the plane was still sitting at the gate. They wouldn’t leave me on the plane because they had already closed the doors. I began to panic.
While standing in line at the customer service desk I started to notice a common thread among all of the people that were being helped, they were all irate and were not getting anywhere. I decided to take a different course and to be as nice as I possibly could. Let me tell you something, it worked better than I ever thought it could.
At first they were saying that I would have to pay an additional $1,100 to get to Heathrow and they weren’t flexible because it was an international flight. Well I smooth talked to the customer service rep until she got me on a second flight (standby) to JFK. Then it was up to the other airline to help me get the rest of the way. I thought there wasn’t a chance, but by being calm and nice and asking the person behind the desk for a little leniency I ended up getting on a flight that was only 4 hours behind my original flight… for free. The moral of the story is you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, especially in the airport.
Are you someone that loves getting away from it all? I know that when I was growing up my family didn’t take the traditional vacation getaways, we had a camper and we traveled almost every weekend during the warm months to a local campground and spend a couple of nights. Sometimes we would even go away for a week or more at a time and really enjoy ourselves. We had a group that we traveled with and they all took their own campers and their children played with us for the weekend, it was always great fun.
One of the things that I really enjoyed about camping is that you got to be around the great outdoors and all the wildlife that it held. Often on our camping trips I would find myself hiking along a mountain stream looking at the little critters and hoping for a chance to see something like a deer or a turkey. One thing that I always found fascinating in the things that I saw was the wide variety of birds that were there. It was always a treat to see them flying around so busy and to hear them sing through the forest. It shaped a part of my life that I really love and that I, even today, take a part in on a regular basis… bird watching.
So if you love birds, and you enjoy being outdoors in the peace and quiet then go camping and enjoy the time alone. There really isn’t anything like the experience of camping to help you unwind and reflect on all that life holds for us. And take a less from the birds that you see, and how carefree they really are. Camping will help restore your tired soul and is a great way to get close to nature.
If you go on a vacation to someplace exotic there is a good possibility that you will be lured into a timeshare presentation. They will give you a lot of good reasons to sit through their speech and often they will offer you something that sounds good enough for you to bite. I know that for my wife and I we have sat through our fair share of timeshare presentations and we have even ended up buying a few, but what can you do to make sure that you don’t buy, especially if you aren’t in a position to buy?
Sometimes when we go on vacation we are able to get a great rate on our room or vacation package because we are willing to sit through the timeshare presentation. This is completely understandable. They are in a position to make a lot of money with your timeshare purchase and you are able to save a lot of money on your vacation by being willing to sit through the presentation. The danger comes in because they are in a position to win the struggle of averages. A considerable number of people that are willing to sit through the presentation and do not want to buy will end up buying because they are very good at presenting their side of the argument. That is how they make their money, so you need to be prepared not to purchase from the start. Make sure that you even tell them (although they have heard it before) that you are just there to get the discount, and when they get to the sales part you will be ready to tell them no right away.
Of course once you get beyond that hurdle you are not really done. Another sales person, usually in a higher position will come out to give you an offer that you can’t refuse. This is a dangerous place for you to be in because they will give you a good offer and you will recognize it. But add it up in your head and realize that you will be making those monthly payments for years, perhaps even after your circumstances change and you aren’t able to take advantage of the timeshare vacation.
So before you take them up on the vacation discount make sure you have resolved in your mind exactly what the outcome will be and stick to it. Even if the pressure gets heavy you need to stick to your word and let it be no. If, of course, you find that it is something that you really want then you should go for it, but make sure to think about it first.
What goes through your mind when you think of South Florida? For many people the first thing that they think of is the sweltering heat and humidity, but that is only part of the story. I live in South Florida and I can say for a certainty that it does indeed get hot in the summertime but there are a few months out of the year that are so beautiful that it makes you forget that there is ever any hot months at all. That brings out some great opportunities to enjoy this tropical area of the United States that aren’t as pleasant in the summer months.
Starting in mid to late October the temperatures start to really cool in the southern part of the sunshine state and you end up with daytime temperatures in the 70s with a fantastic breeze that keeps you comfortable all the time. The skies are a brilliant color of blue and there rarely is any rain to keep you indoors. It is at this time that many people start to head out to some of the great restaurants and beaches that are available on the treasure coast. I know that there are some great little seafood restaurants on the intercostal waterway and at the beach in my area where I love to go when the temperatures get cooler, and although the Atlantic is a little colder in these months the beaches are beautiful and the surf is typically larger for those of you who enjoy surfing.
So when the temperatures start to get cold in the North it’s time for you to head to the sunny south to enjoy all that the sunshine state has to offer. It’s surely fun in the sun and a welcome break from the snow packed states that hold you hostage for the cold months of the year.
Have you ever found yourself at the airport with a lot of time to spare? That recently happened to me when I was flying out of the airport on the same day as my mother and the airport was two hours away from my parents home. I was flying to England to meet my wife and my mother was flying to my home in Florida to take care of it while I extended my vacation. Her flight left at 8am and my flight did not leave until 3 pm. I was wondering what I was going to do while I waited, especially since I was stuck at an airport where there was no wireless internet connection. Here is how I kept myself busy while I was there.
The first thing that I did was to pace the halls. I walked up and down the c concource for about an hour before I stumbled onto something interesting. Outside the Admirals Club I found that I could get a wireless signal so I planted myself down and did a couple hours of work. This helped the time go rather quickly and I was happy that I could spend the time being online instead of trying to sleep sitting up in an uncomfortable airport chair. Another thing that I did was to do some good old fashion people watching. This is something that is really interesting at an airport because you have hundreds of people coming in from all over the world and there are so many different types of people to look at. That kept me interested for about an hour.
So if you find yourself stuck in an airport for a long period of time do some walking and see what kind of opportunities present themselves. You may just be surprised at what you can find to get yourself into when you are stuck at such a melting pot, and what you can see, so enjoy your time and make the best of it.
It is getting to be the time of year that many people that live in the state of Pennsylvania wait all year to see, that is autumn and the changing of the leaves. I grew up in Pennsylvania and have always loved that time of year. There were so many thing to see and do around that time that it literally filled the senses. We got to enjoy everything from the drives through the mountains with their bursts of yellow, red and orange leaves, the harvest time of many of the local crops and cool things like the tapping of the Maple trees for their sap. If you are planning on visiting Pennsylvania this autumn then here are a few tips to help you to make the most of your trip.
1. Plan Ahead - Many local hotels and motels fill up early during the peak leaf changing season because so many people travel in from out of town to see the change. One time my wife and I were coming to the area but not to see the leaves and we had a very hard time finding a room because they had all booked early so make sure you plan ahead and reserve a room.
2. Bring the Right Clothes - The right clothes in Pennsylvania in Autumn are everything. Sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it might even snow, so make sure that you bring a variety of clothes because not only might the weather change from day to day, a warm day can turn into a cool evening rather quickly.
So enjoy your trip to Pennsylvania to see the fall leaves change. Take your time on the roads, especially when they are wet because those leaves become like ice when they get wet. Grab yourself a great map and go exploring. Pennsylvania is a great place to be.
When heading to the great outdoors on a camping trip with your children, you need to keep in mind that camping with kids is a whole different experience then just packing some clothes and food. Depending on your children’s ages, you will need to consider packing some extra items to help make their vacation and your vacation a positive experience.
If you are traveling with small babies or infants, you should make a list of everything that you use at home on a daily basis with them and plan to pack a majority of those things for the trip. You can’t just go with a diaper bag. You will need a port-a-crib or pack-n-play for naps and nighttime. If they love to hang out in a bouncy seat or their swing, that should go in the car too. Pack a bag full of different types of toys from chew toys to books to squeaky hand-held toys. Take things you know they love and that give them comfort. If they use a pacifier, pack 2-3 extra pacifiers. You don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere only to discover that you can find it. If they have a favorite snuggly or blanket, pack that as well.
There will be a lot of new things to look at in the environment, but you know your baby’s needs. If they are content to just sit and look around, great. If they aren’t, then you need plenty to fill there time. Don’t forget a baby backpack or frontpack so that you can carry your child on hikes and remain hands free.
If you are traveling with toddlers in the 1-3 year stage, you still need to consider what they do in a typical day and what you should take with you. Take some of their favorite toys, but also buy a couple new things to introduce when you get to the destination. Stacking cups, alphabet blocks, stacking blocks and books are all good, new toys that will keep them occupied. Take activity toys that they can use to explore their environment. Shovels and buckets for rocks, sand, dirt and water can literally occupy a small child for hours. Sometimes you just have to move them from one side of the campsite to the other and it is like a whole new world for them.
Pre-Schoolers through kindergarten age kids are a little easier to take camping. They are better able to amuse themselves and are more inquisitive about things that they see. You should take along games for them. Books about the outdoors are a great thing to have at this age. You can explore your surroundings and learn about the vegetation, birds and animals together. Take crayons and paper so they can draw pictures about what they see. Have them tell you a story about what they did that day or make up a story about a squirrel family that you see.
All kids should have some sort of identification with them in case they get lost. Include your name, address and cell and home telephone numbers. You should also include an emergency number of someone who is not camping with you since cell phones don’t always work in remote areas. First aid kits should include child friendly supplies. Each child should have their own flashlight. They make great toys and are good for night walks. Reflective clothing for nighttime is important as well. Take extra clothing and plenty of warm clothing for children as children tend to get their clothes dirtier than adults and they tend to get colder quicker.
If your children are not close in age, consider taking along a friend for each of them or traveling with another family that has children. This will keep them from being bored and they will have someone else to share in their exploring and fun.
It is well worth planning ahead when going camping with children. It helps them to have a fun time filled with new and exciting things and the things that they love and give them comfort. By helping them to enjoy their camping trip to the fullest, you will also help yourself to have an enjoyable camping trip as well.
Do unto your campsite and fellow campers as you would have them do unto you. This should be the motto for good camping etiquette. If you are planning a camping trip, there are a number of written and unwritten rules that you should follow in order to be a good patron to the campground and a good neighbor to those camping or enjoying the outdoors around you.
When you camp at a campground or state park, you may be given a list of rules when you enter the camping area and you will probably find rules and regulations posted throughout the area. Read these rules carefully and abide by them to help make your stay pleasant and everyone else’s pleasant as well.
First and foremost if the rules say “don’t do†something, then don’t do it. If they require a dog on a leash, no pets at all or they ask you to stay within certain areas, there are probably good reasons for these rules. They might ask you not to bring pets because they attract other animals to the campsites such as coyotes or bears. Walking in undesignated areas might put you face to face with a bear or cause you to disrupt the natural surroundings.
Do not contaminate the water sources by dumping things in them and do not pick flowers or damage the vegetation in any way. It has been there for hundreds of years and it would be nice for it to continue to be there for hundreds of years in the future.
Keep your campsite clean and don’t litter. Not only does it look bad and can damage the environment, but it also can encourage unwanted animals such as bears or raccoons to enter the area. Along these lines, do not feed the wild animals because it will keep them coming back.
Be respectful of your neighbors. Do not be loud and do not play your music loudly. Many campgrounds will ask that noise be kept to a minimum after a certain time. If you don’t respect this rule, they might ask you to leave. Keep your pets quiet as well. If your dog has a tendency to bark at everything, you might want to leave them at home.
Bring along an extra card table and chairs with you if you have a large group or are having visitors while you are camping. You should never take the picnic table from a neighboring site even if it is vacant. If someone arrives late at night or early in the morning they would probably like for it to be in their site where it belongs.
Make sure that if you make a fire it is completely put out before you leave. Clean your campsite for the next camper. Whatever came with you should leave with you. This includes all your trash which can be disposed of in the trashcans that are throughout the campground or at the entrance to the park.
Think of your campsite as your home away from home. You would want your back yard kept clean and you wouldn’t want someone to walk through your yard, throwing down a candy wrapper and trampling your flowers. Think of your surroundings as your backyard at home.
Aside from rules posted, much of the camping etiquette comes from common sense. Treat your neighbors and your surroundings as you would want them to be treated or would want them to treat you. It helps make your stay and the stay for those camping around you to be relaxing and enjoyable, which is what you want when you head to the outdoors on a camping vacation.
Yo dude, let’s hang ten on a log. But, don’t be a kook bra or you’ll go over the falls fer sure. What was that? Well, its surfer talk that you are going to need to learn for your surf camp vacation that will involve sun, fun and adventure at the beach.
If you are looking for a vacation for an outdoor enthusiast or active family, consider taking a trip to a surf camp. From the coasts of California, Hawaii, Florida, Australia, Costa Rica and many more places you will find surf camps or surf schools that are a perfect vacation for those of you who want a true workout and want to experience the exhilaration of riding a wave.
Surf camps are available to kids, teens, adults and families, so it is not limited to one age group. Depending on where you go you can take a family friendly surf vacation and surf as a family or head to a beach that is for your specific age group to avoid sharing your wave with younger (or older) surfing hopefuls.
You can send your teens to a summer surf school which is similar to any other summer camp. There are camp counselors that double up as teachers. Most surf camps offer a good 3:1 or 2:1 teacher/student ratio. The teachers are certified professional instructors. Your kids will learn about marine life and ecosystems in addition to getting surfing lessons.
If you are taking an extended family vacation to a costal destination, you might also find surfing schools that will offer surfing lessons at different times of the day, so you should be able to find a time that suits your schedule. Many families opt for this so that they can plan their own excursions while still getting surfing lessons.
If you are looking for an exotic surfing vacation and surf camp, consider traveling to Costa Rica. Such surf camps as the Green Iguana Surf Camp will teach you about much more than surfing. You will also get to explore inland and learn about the local cultures and traditions. Costa Rica is said to have some of the best waves that you will ever encounter in your life. You can ride the calmer waves and then enjoy watching the professionals and experienced surfers catching some giant waves or riding the tubes.
Before you embark on your surfing vacation, check out some surfer slang online so that you will know what they are talking about. Surfers have their own language and it is forever changing so it is hard to keep up.
So go learn to ride goofy foot on your long board in the green room. Take a surfari to a surf camp this year and you will have memories that will last a life time and an experience that will be sure to keep you coming back for more.
There are many reasons why someone would want to go on a cruise. Most of us would enjoy the chance to go on any type of vacation, as long as it lets us get away from it all for a while, but going on a cruise is my personal favorite. There are so many different things to do and to enjoy that it is hard not to have a great time. Here are 3 good reasons why you would want to make a cruise your next vacation.
1. Really get away from it all - There are a lot of different places that you can go in the world, but with the increase in technology it is really getting difficult to get away from it all, that is why I love to take a cruise. There is no cell phone service out on the seas (unless you have a satellite phone) and there are limited chances to use the Internet. Now the first cruise that I took offered a $80 package for unlimited Internet use and I took advantage of it, but now I just enjoy being away from the computer as well and I don’t get online except to email a hello from time to time.
2. All Inclusive at it’s best - When you are on a cruise it seems that the whole world is lying at your feet. You can eat any time you want, and I’m talking about top notch cuisine as well. There are shows and different classes for you to take and when you stop at a port they will help you plan your ultimate excursion. Although the excursions are not free they are very enjoyable.
3. Fun in the Sun - Where else can you stand at the railing, looking over the sea and feeling the wind rushing around you and then with just a few steps back from the rail you are surrounded by music and fun poolside. There simply isn’t a way that you can get this many different sensations at the same time.
So the next time you truly want to get away from it all, try a cruise. You won’t be disappointed.
Whether you like to ski the slopes, catch air with your snowboard or simply enjoy taking in the breathtaking view of snow covered mountains, vacationing at ski resorts has a little something for everyone. From beginner to novice and everywhere in between, you will find a ski resort that will meet your vacation, relaxation and outdoor fun needs.
You can find ski resorts all over the world from Lake Tahoe and Colorado in the States to the mountains in Italy, Austria and Switzerland. You can take a long weekend or a long holiday overseas. The beauty of so many different ski resorts is that you can ski with family, friends or children or take a romantic holiday to a ski resort.
When searching for ski resorts, check out the packages that each resort has to offer. In addition to just booking a room, you can book your whole vacation itinerary. They typically offer ski lessons, discount lift tickets, other activities at the lodge and often include breakfast and other meals. Packages are often the way to go since they save you money and may include activities that you would not have done otherwise.
If you have children who like to ski, you can take a family vacation to a ski resort. There are many resorts that have activities that are geared towards children and slopes that parents and children can ski together. Since smaller children don’t always want to spend a long time out in the cold, they have crafts, games and other things for young children to do at the lodge.
Just about any ski resort can be romantic. What is more romantic than snuggling up by the fireplace with the one you love? Many ski resorts have honeymoon packages that will include champagne and strawberries in the room and other things to make your stay memorable. You can ski during the day and snuggle in the lodge by night.
With ski resorts all over the world, you can travel to different lands to ski the slopes and learn about the local customs and cuisine. Families, friends and honeymooners alike will be able to find a ski resort and customize it to their ideal vacation.
Whether you want an exotic vacation, a beach getaway or a trip to the safari you can find it all at the hundreds of African Resorts located throughout Africa. With so many locations, activities and attractions there is an African Resort awaiting for everyone.
When many people think of vacationing in Africa they think about taking a safari. This is definitely a possibility as many of the resorts are located either on or near a game reserve. You will have the option of a luxurious hotel or lodge or staying in your own hut depending on what you like. Staying on or near a game reserve gives you the opportunity to see the wild and exotic animals of Africa up close from elephants to giraffes to zebras.
While safari vacations are popular in Africa, with miles and miles of coast line, many people vacationing in Africa opt to stay at beach African resorts. In addition to the coast line, you will find luxury resorts on islands off the coast of Africa such as the Ras Nungw Beach Hotel on Zanzabar or the L’Archipel Hotel on the island of Praslin. You will be pampered and enjoy the breathtaking views of the ocean and the African Coast.
How do you choose which African resort for your vacation destination? One of the first things that you have to do is to research the different areas of Africa. Sometimes people mistake Africa as being one large country instead of a continent filled with different countries. Each area has its own customs, traditions, landscapes and cuisine, so you really need to decide which area to stay in.
After you pick an area, begin searching for African resorts in that area. We even came across a website where you can compare two African resorts at one time which is an excellent resource to use to help you narrow down your choices.
So, whether you want the beach, the safari or an exotic destination, you will find all of this and more in Africa. Taking a holiday at an African Resort will truly be a memorable experience that will leave you wanting more when your vacation is over.
For many of us our pets are like our children and just like any other parent we can’t imagine going on vacation without our pets. Luckily, there are over 40,000 pet friendly resorts around the world that let you bring your furry friend with you.
Where do you go to find a pet friendly resort? One of the best places to look is to search the internet. By starting this way you have all the resorts in front of you and can read about each resort to decide which one is best for you and your pet.
What can you expect to find at a pet friendly resort? Many of the resorts are just like any other hotel except they allow dogs to be in the room with you. You will have to provide food and other necessities for your dog. However, some pet friendly resorts cater to pooches. They might have their own bed, their own menu filled with doggy treats and areas at the resort that are strictly for pets to play such as a pet park. There might be someone on staff who can walk your dog and take them to potty if you have to go somewhere that does not allow dogs. While you are gone they shouldn’t be bored as some resorts have movies for dogs or TV channels for dogs.
There are some things that you need to consider before heading to a pet friendly resort. Because it is pet friendly, other dogs have been there. If your dog is sensitive to the smells of other dogs, take along blankets from home so that they can sleep and nap among familiar smells. Ask if your pet is allowed on all parts of the property or if they have areas designated for dogs. Follow those rules as their might be people traveling without pets who don’t want doggy kisses while they are sunbathing.
Whether you want to travel overseas, the beach, the mountains or the next state you should be able to find a pet friendly resort so that your four legged children can vacation with you. If you want to stay at a place that isn’t on the list of pet friendly resorts, call and ask them if they accept pets. Some resorts have a couple of rooms that they just use for guests with pets even though they don’t advertise this. So, pack your pooch’s bag because wherever you go he will be going with you.
If you want luxury, pampering, history and exciting cuisine to be a part of your vacation, one of the best ways to get all of this and more is to vacation at a European resort. You get the opportunity to relax and unwind and the opportunity to visit historic sites and learn about the history of the many countries, cities and villages that call Europe home.
Many of the European resorts will offer you a luxury vacation stay. This includes food, comfortable accommodations and pampering at the onsite spas. Their job is to make your stay a memorable one that will keep you coming back for more.
There are hundreds of European resorts, so it is often hard to decide just where you want to go. The first thing you need to think about is what kind of resort you want to go to. For instance, are you more interested in a spa treatment or just a place to lay your head after a day of site seeing? Some resorts are geared more towards families whereas others are more of a romantic place for lovebirds.
Begin searching for that particular type of resort. If you know which country you want to go to that is helpful too. Look for discounts, specials and packages that they have to offer. Just as with any resort, the prices for European resorts vary throughout the year, so if you can be flexible as to when you want to go you will get the best prices.
The internet is an excellent place to get information on European resorts. Once you choose your resort, we suggest you look for reviews on it as well to make sure that others who have already been there had a good time and that it met their expectations. Then it is up to you to go relax, unwind and dine or explore and learn about the history of the area. Either way you can’t go wrong with a vacation at a European resort.
Do you need a vacation that will allow you to get away from it all? A place where there are no unwanted distractions, no loud, obnoxious tourists and plenty of relaxation? Then perhaps vacationing at a spa resort is the type of vacation you are looking for.
We live in a fast paced world. We are constantly on the go and under stress. From work to home there are constant demands and places we need to go and things we need to do. We all dream of getting away from this fast paced world, if only for a day. We dream of a vacation or mini vacation where we will be pampered, where everything we need is at our fingertips, where we can relax and have no worries.
Believe it or not, such a place, such a vacation actually exists. You can find all this and more when you vacation at a spa resort. There are literally hundreds of spa resorts around the world from mineral spas in Jamaica, Canada and South America to romantic getaway spa resorts in France, Italy and Africa and everywhere in between. We even found spa resorts in remote corners of the world that literally give you a little oasis of your own as not many people know about them.
So what can you expect from spa resorts? The answer is just about anything you can imagine. Before searching for a spa resort you need to think about what kind of vacation or getaway you are looking for. Do you want massages and steam rooms? Do you want facials, pedicures and manicures? Do you want to simply relax in your room or enjoy soft music and a book by the pool? What will it take to make you feel pampered? If you can answer that question then you can find a spa resort that fits that pampering need.
There is no time like the present to get away from your hectic lifestyle and relax. Book your spa resort vacation today and you will feel pampered and relaxed in not time.
Many people choose to book vacations at all-inclusive resorts because of the convenience and money it can save as opposed to doing things ala cart. While in most cases, this is true, be sure you know what is included before you book a vacation as you don’t want to have an expensive surprise bill waiting for you at the end of a vacation.
There are some general things that most all-inclusive resorts include in their pricing. So, what should you expect when booking an all-inclusive vacation? First of all you will more than likely have access to transportation to and from the airport. Before you depart on your trip ask the resort where you need to go when the plane arrives to get this transportation.
Food and drinks are typically provided as well. This could be anything from breakfast, lunch and dinner off a particular menu for guests who have paid for the all-inclusive vacation to midnight snacks and afternoon teas depending on where you are staying. Some resorts will give you all the non-alcoholic beverages that you want, but if you want a drink with alcohol you have to pay for it. You might also have complimentary drinks and snacks in your room, but make sure that you won’t be charge extra as mini bar prices can be high.
There are usually activities and programs that are included at all-inclusive resorts. This could be anything from children’s programs and activities to dinner shows to snorkeling and scuba diving. Of course there are always other tempting activities that you have to pay for, but you just have to decide if it is worth skipping the included activities for something else.
Because each all-inclusive resort has its own set of guidelines, you will more than likely have more things included at some places than others. It’s all in what you are looking for, where you want to go and what you want to experience. No matter which vacation you choose, you will no doubt save money and hassle by booking a vacation at an all-inclusive resort.
If you are traveling and you need to stay in a hotel then you will no doubt want to get a room at the very best price you can. Nobody wants to pay more than what they have to and they certainly don’t want to feel as though they were taken advantage of, that would be a shame. There are several ways that you can save on a hotel room but here are my personal favorites and I use these every time I travel in order to land some really great deals on my hotel rooms.
1. You better shop around. This doesn’t only go for the old 60s’ song, it also goes for shopping around for a great deal. I personally like to shop around by using the Internet. There are a lot of websites that will search area hotels for the best price and let you know what kind of deals they find. Put these tools to use for yourself.
2. Coupon Clippers - If you will be staying with a major hotel chain see if there are some coupons available online. Once you arrive at your destination check with some of the local travel brochures that you can find at rest stops and restaurants, these will often have coupons for local hotels.
3. Let Your Fingers do the Walking - Try calling the hotel direct to see if they will give you a better price than what you find on the Internet. They will often give you a great price so that they can fill their inventory of rooms.
Of course there are other ways to save money on your room but these will help you to land a great deal almost every time. Remember that competition amongst hotels gives you the advantage in the pricing game. Play that game till it is in your favor.
So you are getting ready to fly for the first time and you are wondering what you are to expect. A little nervousness or apprehension is certainly understandable, and you should use that nervousness to motivate you to be as prepared as possible. Here is what you can expect, in a nutshell, when you are flying.
When you get to the airport you will need to check in your baggage and get your gate pass. One thing that I always do is to check in online in advance, then you can use the porters at curbside and skip the long lines inside. They will get you ready and take your baggage for you, it makes that part of the process a breeze. Just remember to tip the porter, they really appreciate that.
Once you are at the gate you could go and ask for a bulkhead seat. Those seats are usually given out by some airlines when you get to the airport. By sitting in a bulkhead seat you will have extra legroom. Also be ready to take a bump if you are asked unless you are on a really tight schedule. If they bump you, you will rarely be all that much behind schedule and they will give you a free airline ticket for your trouble.
Once you are on the plane and everyone is buckled in the plane will taxi to the runway. If it is icy out the plane will also deice, which can be a bit nerve-racking, but it’s for your own safety. Once the plane is on the runway it will pick up speed quickly and leave the ground. You will experience a few noises, such as the landing gear being raised, and the plane will speed up and slow down so don’t be nervous, this is very common. If you are nervous on takeoff keep your eye on the stewardesses, if they are calm then everything is going normally.
The rest of your flight will be all up to the pilot, and you will simply land and disembark the plane in your destination city. I hope that this brief article has helped you with any nervousness that you may have about flying. Remember that thousands of planes take off and land around the world every day, it really is a safe way to travel.
Have you ever been to Maui? It is really a beautiful place to visit, especially if you are the adventurous sort. I know that my wife and I have been there twice and it was absolutely beautiful, there really isn’t a place like it on the planet. Some of the main things that people do when they visit Maui is to relax on the beach, enjoy some of the great food that is available, take a drive on the road to Hanna and my personal favorite, take a bike ride down Mt. Haleakala.
The first time we stayed on Maui we found this excursion and we really weren’t sure what to expect, but we went there anyway. Our travel agent gave us some good advice, and that was to do the bike ride on your first day, because they pick you up at 2 in the morning. That way you aren’t fully adjusted to the time and don’t really notice that you are up so early. They will take pick you up in a van and take you to their shop where you will be able to eat some snacks and have some coffee while they load the trailers and then you will leave for the drive to the top of the volcano.
Once on top of the volcano you will notice that the air is very thin. This is because you are at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. The great news is that you will be treated to a star filled sky like you have never seen while you wait for the sunrise. Once the sun comes up you will get on all of your gear and they will give you a bike and some safety instructions and you are on your way down the volcano.
The ride down the volcano is full of switchbacks and the views are fantastic. As you travel down in elevation the temperatures will be warmer and you will be able to remove some layers of clothing. A stop for a mid morning breakfast is great, and they will tell you about some of the famous people that live on the mountain. Soon you are back on your bike and heading for the ocean. It’s a lot of fun and very little peddling so you really get to relax and enjoy the trip. I hope you enjoy a bike ride down the volcano.

Heading north along the coast road Bagamoyo is a seventy minute drive from Dar es Salaam. Bagamoyo is a charming village steeped in a rather bloody history. Most of the great explores, including Livingston used this port, also the slave traders used Bagamoyo as a slave trading post and from here the slaves were shipped to Zanzibar to be sold.
The small bay has lovely white sand beaches, fringed by swaying palms. Technology and the industrial revelation have has little impact on this small community. Fishermen to this day brave the waters off the coast in hand-built wooden dhows of ancient Arabian design spreading their crescent moon shaped sails to catch the prevailing trade winds, they share the waters with tiny dugout canoes that bob uncertainly in the water. The village itself is charming albeit a little dilapidated.
Bagamoyo was named by the slaves, as they left broken and worrying about their families they had left behind - the name means `lay down your heart’ in Swahili. Although the slave trade officially ended in 1873, slaves continued to be sold and traded in Bagamoyo through the end of the nineteenth century.
The Kaole Ruins are a few kilometers south of Bagamoyo and they date back to the thirteenth century. The ruins are of two mosques and several tombs, and this site claims to be home to the first mosques in east Africa. This site is interesting as the buildings were all constructed using coral stones and there is a small museum here.
The Roman Catholic Mission is a picturesque mission, and again is said to be the oldest Roman Catholic Church in East and Central Africa and dates back to 1868. In 1874, Dr. Livingstone’s body stayed at the Catholic mission before being sent to England for burial. In the 1800s - revolutionary, Christian missionaries established a `Freedom Village’ at the mission to protect freed slaves and by putting their lives in danger these brave people were instrumental in stopping the slave trade.
Chuo cha Sanaa is a great place to visit. Students come here from all over the world to learn traditional Tanzanian drumming, sculpture, carving and painting. It is possible to hear an African drumming performance at the college, but much more fun is to enroll for a class and become involved with African art, carving and drumming - something to impress your friends with when you return home.
The official residence of the colonial governor was the German Boma. During German colonial rule, Bagamoyo was the capital of Tanzania. Although you cannot enter the building, you can walk around the outside - which isn’t as interesting as it sounds.
Other historical, if somewhat gruesome, sites include the German Hanging Place, the site where the German colonial government hanged Africans who rebelled against the German colonial government in the late 1800s. A site to interest all mothers is the tongue twisting Mwanamakuka Cemetery’s with the oldest tomb dated 1793. Many colonial soldiers who were casualties in the Maji Maji Rebellion are buried in the German Cemetery.
>From Bagamoyo it is possible to take boat trips to the Ruvu River Delta. From the boat you will see several species of mangroves and water birds. Hippos also swim in the Ruvu water and you’ll catch glimpses of them along the shore and in the water.
Most hotels will arrange for dhow trips sandbars [make sure your medical insurance is up to date] to offshore. On the sandbar you will have several hours to relax or snorkel the surrounding reefs.
The hotels here are charming. Bagamoyo is the place to visit is you have a day or two spare and need to get away from Dar es Salaam.

The spice islands of Zanzibar refer to an archipelago of fifty or so islands with Unquia and Pemba being the largest. The main island is more commonly referred to simply as Zanzibar and to all intents and purposes Unquia is Zanzibar.
Stone Town is the capital, the port and entrance to this spiced island. Entering this small port by ferry from Dar es Salaam is certainly an unforgettable experience, never failing to make the most worn-out traveler eager to explore this ancient port.
As you step onto the wharf the smell of cloves is carried on the breeze to greet you; immediately you are aware Stone Town is out of the ordinary. Arab dhows white-sails shaped like the crescent moon, sail gently out of the harbor and pass along the miles of palm fringed beaches. Stone Town transports you into the past. The whole atmosphere is of medieval times, veiled women, their hands and feet hennaed with elaborate patterns, haggle in the markets and small shops which cluster the peripheries of the town.
Take time exploring the interweaving narrow streets, taking care not to become disorientated, passing intricately-carved wooden doors heavy with brass studs and beneath ornate balconies; allow the imagination to transport you back in time to the dark days of the lucrative slave trade and spice industry. Visit the immense House of Wonders and then the heartrending ruins of the Old Slave Market, which is dominated by the old church of Christ Anglican Cathedral, its altar on the site of the old whipping block.
Spice tours are a specialty of Zanzibar and best taken from Stone Town. On the Spice tour you will learn about fifty different spices and fruit that grow on the island, from cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cloves, to jackfruit and sugarcane. The spices together with the Indian and Arabic influences have produced a unique `Swahili’ cuisine.
Zanzibar is a seafood lover’s paradise. The freshest catch from game fish to giant lobster and crayfish are on offer. Dinner at the nightly fish market in the Forodhani Gardens on Stone Town’s waterfront where a collection of stalls serve up freshly cooked seafood is not to be missed. It is a giant seafood barbeque where you can eat out in the open and mix and chat with the locals.
The rest of the island is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches, coral reefs, warm clear blue waters and idyllic islands. The reefs are excellent for snorkeling and diving and further out fantastic deep sea fishing is offered. There are many resorts on Zanzibar from budget beach huts to five-star resorts.
Many see the beaches around Zanzibar as split into the North and the East. This is a false dichotomy and there are excellent beaches on many areas of the Island. Tour operators have their favorite parts of the island and although many say one side is superior to the other this is not true.
Breezes Resort is on the east side of Zanzibar and is a wonderful romantic resort, especially suited to honeymooners. Matembe Bungalows in on the north-east side of the island is as first rate lodge perched on low cliffs and is close to the best diving areas. Some claim the beach here is the most beautiful and it is the most isolated beach. I normally settle in Nungwe Village on the northern most tip of the island - it is famed for its tradition of boat building and one of the most popular locations. The secret is in finding the right resort on the right beach for your particular needs; a resort for the family or maybe close to the best diving, or maybe a resort enjoying a vibrant night life; it all depends on what you prefer.
Religious and cultural traditions make the matter of dress code an important consideration. Men and women should dress appropriately when away from the beach, covering shoulders, women with sleeves preferably to the elbow and legs covered to below the knees. Try to wear loose-fitting, non-transparent clothing when in public. Zanzibar people are very warm, open and hospitable. It is considered polite and respectful to ask for permission before taking photographs or filming local people. You may see tourists dressed inappropriately in Stone Town and this can and does cause offence.
On the coast beachwear is fine, in the resort, however in the villages it is better to dress more modestly. When offering or accepting things, try and remember to offer and receive with your right hand. This is the hand which should also be used for eating.
Having said this Zanziabrian’s are warm hospitable people. Enjoy this island and remember to venture out of your resort to do some exploring and make the most of your time on this very exotic island.

If you are like me and you tend to do a lot of long distance traveling then you will often come up against the decision to either fly or to drive to get where you are going. If you find yourself struggling with making that decision then here are some things that you can keep in mind.
1. You should count the costs. There are costs involved with everything and that always will play a part in the decision making process. I know that for me I am flying from my Florida home to the Washington DC area in 2 weeks. I was considering driving, but it is over 1100 miles one way. This will cost me about $120 in gas for each leg of the trip plus two nights stay in a hotel. I found some tickets online last night and it is under $150 for a round trip flight. I can fly there and rent a car for much less than it costs me to drive and I don’t have the wear and tear on my vehicle.
2. Know your mission - Sometimes cost is not the only feature that you look at. I know that when my wife traveled with me that we often like to take our time and stop at different places along the way. That way we get to spend some alone time together and to see and explore places that we may never have stayed. So if you have the time and feel a bit leisurely on this trip then consider doing it like that.
3. Arrive Alive - Sometimes I’m just plain nervous about driving all that way. Sure I know the rules that keep me safe while on a road trip but statistically it is much safer to fly rather than drive. So sometimes that is the deciding factor, do I really feel like making a long drive?
Keeping these few things in mind when making your decision to drive or fly to your destination may help you to make that decision. Whichever way you choose make sure that enjoy the trip that is in front of you.
So you are ready to go on a family vacation, at least that is what you think. Now I’m not talking about the little romantic getaway with your significant other, I’m talking about the full fledged family outing that includes some extended family that you aren’t usually around. This can be an extremely enjoyable time for most of us but sometimes tension runs a bit high and personalities clash, so what is it that can help you to survive the rough spots on a family vacation?
1. Have some Me Time - Sure it’s great to get away with people that you love, but sometimes you just need some time to yourself. When you find yourself in this situation then you need to have an escape route in place, one that will make it easy for you to get away from the potentially volatile situation from which you are trying to escape. Perhaps you could always keep a deficit of some sort in place and then offer to go fill that void when the time is right. I like to do this with things that are readily available, especially since we don’t really need it, it’s just convenient for you to go get it.
2. Sleep, the ultimate mediator - When you sense that tensions might be running a bit high, or perhaps you have some personalities clashing then it may be time for you to take a little nap. You will probably find that after your nap whatever it was that was bothering you will be a thing of the long past.
3. Subject Swappers - You should always be ready to switch subjects to something that they like. If you feel as if the conversation is going badly then try to get them to talk a bit about a hobby that they enjoy or perhaps something that is going on in their lives. This will generally help to take off the pressure.
By doing these few things you will be better able to successfully go through a family vacation unscathed. Most of all enjoy the time that you have with your family and try not to be overly concerned if things are not always going your way.
