Five Must Visit Websites for Cancer Patients Facing Chemotherapy
March 25th, 2008 by Xavier MediaAs a cancer survivor, I know well the questions, fears, and isolation of those who are facing cancer. Chemotherapy treatments in particular are one of the most frightening, confusing and challenging parts of dealing with cancer. The Internet can be extremely valuable during chemo, not only as a educational and reference tool, but as a way to connect with a community of people who understand and have experienced what you are going though. Below are five websites I recommend for cancer patients (and their caregivers) who are planning or currently receiving chemotherapy treatments. (Links to each website are at the end of the article.)
Chemo Care
This website is sponsored by Scott Hamilton, cancer survivor and Olympic figure skater. The website provides the latest information about chemotherapy to patients and their families, caregivers and friends. You will find great info about chemotherapy as well and tips on chemotherapy drugs, managing side effects, and eating well during chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy and You: Support for People With Cancer
This is an online book that provides extensive guidance about chemotherapy. You can bookmark this site and refer to it throughout your chemotherapy treatment. It includes facts about chemotherapy and its side effects, and also highlights ways you can care for yourself before, during, and after treatment.
HealthTalk Cancer
HealthTalk Cancer is a subsection of the HealthTalk website. The cancer section is organized by type of cancer and provides the latest in cancer information and facts to cancer patients and survivors. Learn the latest about your particular type of cancer and most current treatments and therapy. Excellent bloggers and content.
Chemotherapy
This site is packed with educational and support information about chemotherapy. An excellent resource for cancer patients as well as their caregivers. You will find information to better understand cancer, articles on treating cancer with chemotherapy as well as other treatment options, facts about chemotherapy side effects, and tools to help you with insurance, support organizations, tracking your test results and more. You can sign up to receive a complimentary one-year subscription to “Women and Cancer” magazine.
American Cancer Society
No list of cancer references would be complete without a link to the ACS. Their mission statement says it all…”The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering through research, education, advocacy, and service.” This site is full of cancer related information, guidance, communities, links, stories and health care. Be sure to join their email list which will keep you informed about activities, news and resources in your area.

Barbara J. Haas is the owner of ChemoSavvy (http://www.chemosavvy.com), a small business that sells comfortable hats, wigs, turbans and other head wear for cancer chemotherapy patients that are experiencing hair loss. The company was founded by cancer survivor Barbara Haas because she was frustrated by how hard it was to find comfortable head wear when she was experiencing chemo hair loss.
