Find Good Sources for Inspiration
June 2nd, 2009 by charenGood marketing changes and updated on a regular basis. You aren’t likely to go long before you start to need to designs for your advertising or new types of advertising altogether.
What a company is going to encounter most is the need to update existing marketing material. Certain formats for advertising just work best with certain companies. If full color brochures have been giving you the ability you need to explain in detail about your product or services, than just abandoning brochure printing for a different form of marketing altogether isn’t really an option.
That means you instead need to be able to focus on improving your existing brochures. You have to give people new images, new layouts, and new ways to make your brochure look unique and interesting again.
But how exactly do you come up with that many different designs? Given the complicated nature of brochures to begin with, designing a good brochure takes a lot of time and money. If you have to constantly be updating it this might end up taking a bigger chunk out of your time than you’re able to give.
Finding effective sample brochures will be the best bet for inspiration. There are a number of different ways you can go about getting sample brochures to look at.
The first is by taking a look at the competition, whether direct or indirect. What I mean by that is you can look at the other companies that are actually in your market, or just take a look at any company period. I would suggest that you first start with the companies that are in your industry to give you a better idea of what the people close to you enjoy.
Another way to find samples is by going to various online sources. There are plenty of different design companies that have samples of their work posted online. You can use this as a basis for hiring them, or you can just look at what they’ve done to see what might work for your company.
Just doing general image searches can turn up a large assortment of different sample brochures other companies have made. This gives you one of the widest selections possible for everything from full color brochures to various custom brochures.
Your point isn’t really to just copy these designs directly, but to see what works and what other people are doing. You might end up taking elements from three different sample brochures in order to make one of your own. There are a number of ways you can take these samples and use them to create something entirely unique for yourself.
Still, it’s nice to know what the options are before you start out. By looking at these kinds of selections you can get a good feel for what the possibilities are, and what might work well for you.
