Podcasting and SEO
January 18th, 2008 by Xavier MediaIn the wild world of the World Wide Web, if there is one thing that everyone is after, it is visibility. The Net is set up in such a way that being anonymous and visible is both easy and difficult, depending on how you go about things. Now if you want to be a known name on the Internet, it is not an easy task but there are a number of things that you can do to get some visibility. The reason so many people love search engine optimization is precisely because of this; SEO gives them a chance be more noticeable to their target audience. But even within the field of SEO there is so much competition that scrambling to the top position is not an easy task.
Internet marketers are always looking for ways to make themselves more attractive to their target market and one of their latest discoveries has been podcasting. Over the last few years audio and video files have become increasingly popular on the Internet especially following the success of popular sites that feature free files for viewing and downloading. These files are popular because they are a fresh form of communication and bring information together with entertainment in a creative way.
Another reason that podcasts have become so popular these days is because of the kind of technology that is available to us now. Broadband connections are common these days, which makes it all the more easy for Internet users to access big files in a shorter span of time. Both uploading and downloading huge chunks of information has become much more easy now thanks to the kind of Internet technology that is available to us comparatively easily now.
In addition to that, many of us now also have access to audio and video devices that can play files that have been downloaded from the Net. Portable digital music players and mobile phones that play such files are commonplace which makes it all the better for marketers who want to reach their target in this manner. Another advantage with podcasts is also that these are downloadable files which can be played on a portable devise at a later date. This means that it is actually possible for your target market to view your message offline also. So you can just imagine the kind of reach that is possible because of this.
The other great thing about podcasts is that most of these sites that feature such files have some kind of sharing facility which allows one user to share the file with someone else. Thus these podcasts have a way of being passed around online and because it is coming from someone that the user knows, the credibility factor also shoots up.
From an SEO point of view, adding podcasts to your site or about your brand on another site can really work to your benefit. For example, if you make a video about yourself and upload it on to a popular video sharing site with appropriate keywords, search engines would also find these files when someone types in those keywords. This means that searchers will get results in the form of video files, which would be all the more attractive to them.
The point here is of being different. Videos are all the rage on Internet and using this popular form of communication to promote your brand will only work to your benefit. Having a video file instead of just plain text adds novelty value to your site, especially when we know that these kinds of files are something online users enjoy.
The possibilities that podcasts bring to SEO and visibility are huge but it just needs to be managed and executed in the right way. The interest value works to the marketer’s advantage because here you are giving your visitors something that is engaging and informative. The best thing that is working perfectly for marketers now is that technology and interest have come together to make all this possible in the form of podcasts.
