Paintball Gun Review- Kingman Spyder Xtra
Copyright 2003, Robin Kaur
If you're a recreational tournament player, then Kingman has gun
for you. The new Spyder Xtra is a good looking gun that comes in
a light green anodized finish. It performs extremely well for a
marker that can be found for under $180, and it comes pretty much
complete so you won't have to spend a lot of money buying add-ons
and upgrades to get tournament features.
Like all Kingman products, the Spyder Xtra is a well balanced,
accurate marker and produces some pretty decent firing rates.
The double trigger has a comfortable light pull, and can easily
deliver 6-8 balls a second. The patented vertical feed is a nice
touch. It not only enables the balls to feed quicker, but it
also virtually eliminates paintball chopping. Note however that
the vertical feed requires you to rethink your aiming strategy
as the vertical feed renders the sight rail totally useless!
Once you get the hang of it, however, the features and
performance of this gun makes the learning curve worth the
effort.
Kingman did us a real favor by supplying a stock barrel that
offers decent range and accuracy. Although an upgraded barrel is
available, use the stock barrel until you see a need to spend the
additional money. You may never need the upgrade.
If you're in the habit of using low quality, cheap paintballs,
then the Spyder Xtra is may cause you some paintball
breakage problems. Switch to a higher quality ball and you're
all set.
If you're a cold weather player, Kingman has you covered. Their
mini-expansion chamber augments the Spyder Xtra's cold weather
performance by preventing liquid CO2 from getting into the gun.
The Spyder Xtra's remarkable balance makes snap-shooting a
breeze. Like most Spyder products, strip down and cleanup is a
snap.
In Conclusion, I'd say that the Kingman Spyder Xtra won't
disappoint you. If you already own your favorite tournament
gun, then the Spyder Extra makes a great backup. This is also
a nice holiday gift for someone as this sport develops
leadership, strategy, team cooperation and focus.
